James Roberts Obituary
James Lynn Roberts, 82, of North Charleroi, passed away peacefully at Redstone Highlands with his loving wife and family by his side on Oct. 14, 2024. Jim was born on Dec. 2, 1941, to the late Harry Paul and Bernice (Lynn) Roberts. Jim was the owner and operator of the North Charleroi, Dairy Queen for over 50 years. He was very proud to be part of the Charleroi Community and gave back generously. He loved serving his community, their families and his employees, of whom he treated as family. Following in his family's long-line of educators, Jim was the chemistry science teacher at Charleroi Area High School for over 25 years. He was also the Charleroi Ski Club Adviser for the high school. Jim's passion for science and learning went beyond the classroom. He loved everything about the natural world: astronomy, birdwatching, composting, and gardens that included an abundance of beautiful flowers. As an avid arborist he grew his own cherries and concord grapes. He earned a reputation for making excellent homemade applesauce and pies. Jim loved camping with his family where he would use the time to teach his children and grandchildren about the stars, the birds and the world around them. It wasn't unusual to hear him ask 'what river are we crossing kids' As retirement neared, Jim and Jan enjoyed exploring America by RV. His copy of the Audubon Society Field Guidebook traveled with them. Above all, Jim adored his family and cherished all his time with them. Surviving to cherish Jim's memory, his beloved wife Janice Elaine (Roadman) Roberts; his brother, H. Paul (Linda) Roberts; his sister, Nancy (Denny) Ridgeway; and his aunt, Jean Roberts who is 104 years old. Also, his daughters, Elaine (Dwayne) Sweetman, Jennifer Seaton (Roberts), and Christine (Jodi) Roberts-Rothermund; his sons, Jason (Jenna) Roberts and Shawn (Casey) Roberts; and Jim's grandchildren, Jason (Lindsey), Marissa, Ashley, Devin, and Nick Roberts, and Lizzy Seaton. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by our beloved Auntie, Florence Lynn. Friends and family will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022.
