John Fleming Obituary

John S. Fleming, 79, of Connellsville, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at his residence. He was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Smock, a son of the late James R. Fleming and the late LaVerna Allen Fleming Wilson. John graduated from Connellsville High School in 1941, and attended Mansfield State Teachers College until entering the service. John served in the U.S. Army's 9th Infantry Division from Normandy to Dachau, Germany, during World War II. He was retired from PennDOT, where he was employed as a commercial and industrial appraiser. A professional musician at age 10, John played with numerous bands and organizations for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church USA of Connellsville, where he had served as deacon, trustee and auditor. John was a member of King Solomon's Lodge #346 F&AM, Caravan No. 9 of Syria Temple, Connellsville Royal Arch Chapter, Uniontown Commandery, Comas Club, past president of the American Society of Highway Engineers and violinist for the Connellsville Elks #503 for 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edna Winkler Fleming; two daughters, Linda Myers and husband, Edward, of Lemont Furnace and Jenny O'Casek and husband, David, of Loveland, Ohio; four grandsons, Jeff Myers and wife, Andrea, of Basking Ridge, N.J., John Myers and wife, Beverly, of Green Springs, Ohio, James O'Casek and wife, Amber, of Houston, Texas, and Kevin O'Casek of Loveland, Ohio; and two great-grandsons, Anthony and Andrew Myers of Ohio. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday until the hour of service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Juengel officiating. King Solomon's Lodge #346 F&AM will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and the B.P.O. Elks #503 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday, both in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church USA of Connellsville or to the Carnegie Free Library of Connellsville, in memory of John S.
