John Vargulish Obituary

John Vargulish, 71, of Ligonier, died late Monday evening, Oct. 5, 2009, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born Nov. 10, 1937, in Latrobe, a son of the late Michael and Anna Malinish Vargulish. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he had been employed as an accountant for Idlewild Park. He was a member of St. Stephen's Greek Orthodox Church, in Latrobe, where he had been the church treasurer for more than 27 years. He had served with the Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Vargulish; and two sisters, Agnes Moran and Margaret Pennington. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara Fetter Vargulish; a daughter, Cindy L. Vargulish, of Ligonier; two sons, John A. (Holly) Vargulish and Jamie R. Vargulish, all of Ligonier; six grandchildren; seven sisters, Mary Hutchinson, of Derry, Helen Barkley and Veronica Crawford, both of Ligonier, Elizabeth Marcinko and Emma Jean Todd, both of Latrobe, and Irene and Joanne Dishman, both of Livingston, Tenn.; and three brothers, George Vargulish, of Latrobe, Charles Vargulish, of Uvalde, Texas, and Edward Vargulish, of Pawtucket, R.I. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATORY INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. Panachida services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church with the Rev. Nicholas Ferencz as celebrant. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery. A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel.
