Josephine D. Derek Macey, 77, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. She was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Latrobe, daughter of the late John and Catherine (McGovern) Derek. She was a graduate of Latrobe High School in 1949 and was a homemaker. Jo was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish, St. Vincent Altar Rosary Society, Women's Auxiliary and St. Vincent DePaul Society, where she was founder and an active volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul Store in Latrobe. Beside her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Macey, who died in 2006; sister, Theresa Freidline; and brother, Charles Derek. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Macey and her husband, Michael Tafler, of Oswego, N.Y., Jo Jo Macey, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Jerry Macey and his wife, Jane, of Latrobe, and Annette Pollock and her husband, Christian, of Mountain Top; five grandchildren, Esei Murakishi, Keagan and Katrina Tafler, Ashley Macey and Grace Pollock. She is also survived by sisters and brother, Rita Derek, of Latrobe, Catherine Zverblis, of Ohio, Cecilia Schikora, of Michigan, Regina Hile, of Latrobe, Bernadette Joyce, of Pittsburgh, Pauline and her husband, Robert Jackson, of Ohio, Colette Zeglin, of Greensburg, and Jeff and his wife, Barbara Derek, of Latrobe. Friends and family will be received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Vincent Basilica. Internment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations can be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, Latrobe.
