Nancy Chauvin Obituary

Nancy Mae Chauvin, 93, a wife, loving mother of four children and four grandchildren, passed away peacefully, at her residence, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024. Nancy was the heart and soul of her family, always there with soothing words, a smile, good food, kindness and hugs. Her spirit inspired her family and she will always be in their thoughts. Nancy was born in Pittsburgh on May 7, 1931, the daughter of Rudolph R. and Philomena "Minnie" (Affinito) Stridinger. In the 1940's, after their home suffered in a major flood in Pittsburgh, her father moved the family to West Deer Twp., where she and her mother struggled to adapt to the rural lifestyle. After graduating from West Deer High School in 1949, Nancy worked for Kaufmann's in Pittsburgh. In early 1956, Nancy met Dewey Chauvin, they fell in love and married later that year on Oct. 27th. Nancy loved being a mother and as their family grew to four children (Dewey A., John, Paul, and Valerie), she devoted herself to her children and family. She was a great mother and loved caring for her children and grandchildren. Each morning she woke first to get her family ready for the day, and regardless of the day's events, the family sat at the dinner table for one of her delicious meals, talked and laughed together. She learned to drive in her 40's so she could take the kids to the never ending events and had to endure the constant 'faster Mom, we'll be late!' Thankfully, she knew her limits and drove slowly. She enjoyed reading, listening to her crooners on the Victrola, and getting together with the neighbors to chat, drink coffee, and play Pinochle. In the summers she loved to host get-togethers with extended family and friends. Nancy is survived by children, Dewey A. Chauvin, Paul Chauvin, John (Jennifer) Chauvin, and Valerie (Scott) Smith; grandchildren, Taylor (Michael), Brady, Lucas, and Olivia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey; their infant son; brothers, Fred and Rudy Stridinger. Nancy will be greatly missed and never forgotten. A Christian Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lakes, St. Victor's Campus with Rev. James P. Holland. Nancy was laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township next to her husband, Dewey. Funeral arrangements were in the care of ADAM SIEMIANOWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 179 Starr Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. For online condolences, please visit, www.westdeerfuneralhome.com

The Chauvin family was always nice to us growing up. Dewey and the kids were great friends growing up. Your mom was one of the good ones.
