Richard McCurdy Obituary
Richard "Dick" McCurdy, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully at the seasoned age of 85, at his residence on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, from "a long-term battle with emphysema." Richard was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Wilmerding. He was a blessing to his mother, Marion Christopher, his stepfather, Cyril Christopher, and his stepsister, Sharon Christopher, of East McKeesport. He graduated from Westinghouse High School and thereafter proudly served in the Navy during World War II. His marriage to Olive J. (Warden), on Oct. 9, 1948, was amongst his fondest of memories. Richard then established a career as a payroll auditor for Fisher Body, General Motors Division, in West Mifflin. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and traveling in his free time. Lancaster County and Sanibel Island were his two favorite destinations. Those who knew him enjoyed listening to his vast knowledge of history and politics along with his personal experiences, which often incorporated humor. Richard was passionate about completing small projects, working outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends. He was long-standing member of the Trafford American Legion Post 331 and took pride in extending ongoing support to the U.S. Naval Memorial, disabled veterans and USO. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and stepsister (mentioned above). He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 65 years, Olive J. (Warden), of Trafford. Richard's legacy survives through his two sons, Dale (Sandy) McCurdy, of Greensburg, and Keith (Cathy) McCurdy, of North Huntingdon; as well as his one daughter, Lisa (Scott) Halas, of Penn Township. Heartfelt remembrance of their "Pap-Pap" lives through his six grandchildren, Justin (Krista) McCurdy, of Howell, Mich., Alesha McCurdy, of Pittsburgh, Heather (Robert) Robson, of Cranberry, Keelan (Megan) McCurdy, of Oakdale, Brandon (Susannah, fiancee) Halas, of Pittsburgh, and Danielle Halas, of Penn Township. He will also be remembered by his four great-grandchildren, Lillia, Sienna, Alaina and Caden. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 702 Seventh St. (State Route 130), Trafford. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Chaplain Sam Blair, from Bridges Hospice, officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum, Delmont. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kucera, his staff, Bridges Hospice, neighbors and friends for their constant support during Richard's time of need.
