Catherine Thurber Obituary

Catherine E. (Winton) Eriksen Wess Thurber, 94, of Naples, Fla., formerly of New Kensington, died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Harbor Chase Nursing Facility in Naples. She was born March 13, 1913, in Buffalo, N.Y., daughter of the late Walter Ross and Catherine (Harrop) Winton and was a 1931 graduate of Tarentum High School. She then completed her education at Salvation Army Training College in New York, N.Y. and obtained the rank of lieutenant. She served in various sections of the state for over three years. Before moving out of state, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Tarentum and the former Tarentum Chapter #98 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and sewing. Beloved mother of William (Joyce) Eriksen, of Marco Island, Fla.; grandmother of Bruce (Amy) Eriksen, of Ridgway, Colo.; sister of Sarah Compton, of Sacramento, Calif.; aunt of Tom (Dorothy) Compton, David Compton, Bill Marriott and Patricia Morgan; also survived by her extended family, Sam and Kim Thurber and Marvin Hornick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Christian Eriksen; second husband, William Wess; third husband, Chase Q. Thurber, and sisters, Sarah Ada O'Donley and Alice Marriott. At the request of the family, visitation and burial will be private. A memorial concert by the Paradise Brass Quintet will be planned in Naples in the fall. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ROSS G.
