David Kriss Obituary

The Rev. David J. Kriss, 51, of Donora died unexpectedly Wednesday (Oct. 6, 2004) at Gettysburg Hospital. He became ill while traveling.

The Rev. Kriss was the pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Parish in Donora. Survivors include his mother, Florence Kriss of the Southside, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Mark (Amy) Kriss of Monroeville and the Rev. Aaron Kriss, pastor of Holy Martyrs Roman Catholic Parish in Tarentum; and a sister, Ellen (John) Walkowiak of Des Moines, Iowa. Also surviving are four nieces, Laurel and Erin Walkowiak, and Kerry and Julia Kriss. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Kriss. Friends are being received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at JOHN J. GMITER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 119 S. 15th St., Southside. Additional visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at St. Dominic Church Worship Site, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Philip Neri Church Worship Site, Our Lady of the Valley Parish, both in Donora, where Christian Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Translation Mass will be offered at 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Adalbert Church, Prince of Peace Parish, Southside. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Sisters of St. Basil, Mount St. Macrina, Uniontown, PA; or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
