Jacob Niehoff Obituary

Jacob Bauer Niehoff Jr., 83, passed away on Aug. 10, 2025, after a courageous health battle. Jake was born on March 24, 1942, the son of the late Elizabeth Jane and Jacob Bauer Niehoff Sr. He was raised in Shamokin. He graduated from Shamokin High School, class of 1960, and Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia. He had a long and interesting career in television, which had him traveling the country. He began his career adventure at Channel 48 in Philadelphia. He traveled to the West Coast in Los Angeles to assist with the onset of On-TV, then on to Channel 69 in San Francisco. His final destination was in Pittsburgh at NEP Group, where he helped the world see live sporting events. Jake loved collecting many things, including all different kinds of specialty cars over the years, his favorite being his 1979 Mercedes-Benz. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his longtime favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. His love for eBay was unmatched; he was always looking for deals to add to his collection. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 699 and a lifetime member of the Independence Fire Company in Shamokin. He was a respected and well-liked friend, colleague, father, and grandfather. His quick wit and sense of humor often had many of us guessing, but it was very endearing and will be remembered as his signature trait. Jake is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 28 years, Cheryl; son, William Niehoff (Tracy), Coal Township; daughter, Susan Strausser (Michael), Shamokin; stepson, John Dahms (Amy), Doylestown; stepdaughter, Jaime Dahms (Scott Fricke), Chicago; granddaughters, Erika Strausser (fiance, Adam Kusnerick), Bloomsburg, Brooke Strausser (fiance, Brandon Fry), Shamokin, and Margaret and Annabel Dahms, Doylestown; and also his very special feline friends, Harry and Finn Niehoff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Laura Belber, Rebecca, Bill, and Frank Niehoff; and his first wife and the mother of his children, Judy Strunk. All arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or Just Us For the Animals, Punxsutawney.
