James Luffy Obituary

James Elmer "Jim" Luffy left his earthly life on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023, at home. Jim was born June 19, 1930, in New Kensington, to John and Millie (Myers) Luffy. He was raised on the family farm on Seventh Street Road with his three sisters and two brothers. He often spoke about how his brothers, Jack and Bill, looked after him while his parents tended to the farm. Jim served in the Army from February of 1951 to January of 1954. In December of 1951, he married Marjorie Irwin. They were married almost 63 years until her death in July of 2014. They raised their four children in Upper Burrell Township just two miles from where he was raised. During that time, he worked for the Russ Swank Farm, the Pennsylvania Highway Department and Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania, where he retired after more than 30 years of service. After retirement, he continued to work by mowing lawns and renovating the Irwin homestead where he lived until this year. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding and camping. A member of Pine Run Presbyterian Church for more than 70 years, he served on many committees over the years. Of course, his greatest loves, except for Marge, were his five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Jim is survived by children, Linda (Jinx) Springfield, of Dares Beach, Md., Patti Fontaine, of Lithia, Fla., Jim (Leslie) Luffy, of New Kensington, and Gary Luffy, of Apollo. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diane (February of 1956 to December of 1956). He is survived by grandchildren, Wendy (Eric) Shook, Gary Luffy, Stacey Price, Stephanie (Jeff) Overton and Kristi Luffy; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Larry) Korzon and Eileen (Bill) Luffy; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife, Marge; sisters, Lucille Crawford, Mae Brun and Margaret Wright; brothers, John (Jack) and William (Bill) Luffy; and parents, John and Millie Luffy. There will be no funeral service. Arrangements were entrusted to RJ SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, New Kensington (724-335-0100). Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Run Presbyterian Church, 517 Markle Road, Apollo PA 15613.

A great photo of Mom and Dad. It's difficult to find photos of them without the other in it. United with each other in heaven with Jesus, their Lord and Savior.
