Jerome J. Slancauskas

Jerome "Jerry" Joseph Slancauskas, 73, of Lower Burrell, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 8, 1951, Jerry grew up in the city he loved, graduating from South Side High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. From 1971 to 1977, he served proudly as an inventory management specialist and earned the National Defense Service Medal. After his service, he returned home and dedicated 37 years to the City of Pittsburgh's Public Works Department as a foreman, helping maintain the very streets and spaces of the city that raised him. Beyond his work, Jerry cherished life's everyday joys. He loved fishing and camping at Pymatuning Lake, sharpening his mind with crossword puzzles, and caring for his two dogs, Lea and Oreo, who were never far from his side. His greatest joy, however, was his family. He loved supporting his children whether coaching his daughter's sports teams, mentoring his son as a Scout leader, or cheering them on in all their endeavors. Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan (Kurta) Slancauskas; his daughter, Alyssa (Chris) Smith; his son, T.J. Slancauskas; and many nieces and nephews who will forever remember their "Uncle Jer" with love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Genevieve (Dombrowski) Slancauskas; his twin brother, Richard; and his sister, Barbara Thornton. Jerry will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his community and country, and his quiet strength that touched all who knew him. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 until the time of service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force in DUSTER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum, 724-224-1526.
