Leland Fitzgerald Obituary

Leland D. Fitzgerald, 82, of Vandergrift, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, in the VNA Hospice, Butler. Born Nov. 18, 1927, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Leason and Estelle Smeltzer Fitzgerald. A veteran of the Army having served during World War II, he had been employed by Allegheny Ludlum in West Leechburg in the cold mill prior to retiring in 1984 after 35 years of employment. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was also a member of the George G. McMurtry Fire Department, VFW and the F & AM Lodge 617, all in Vandergrift, and the Western, State and County Fireman's Association. Survivors include five Sons, W. Duane (Toni) Fitzgerald, of Gilpin Township, Richard D. Fitzgerald, John G. Fitzgerald, Paul A. (Lynette) Fitzgerald and David H. (Nancy) Fitzgerald, all of Vandergrift; a sister, Agnes "Betty" Baker, of Washington Township; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Richey Fitzgerald, in 1998; a son, Eric Fitzgerald, in 1983; daughter, Cynthia Ann Fitzgerald, in 1956; and three brothers, Grant, Elonza and his twin, Leo. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Keith Deckinger officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Apollo. The fire department will hold a chapel service at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
