Raymond Calcagno Obituary

Raymond Calcagno, 91, of Arnold, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Seneca Place in Penn Hills. Born Feb. 8, 1922, in Apollo, he was a son of the late Anniabele and Olympia (Castella) Calcagno. Mr. Calcagno was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington. An Army veteran of World War II, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star; he was a member of the American Legion. He was a pinball machine mechanic for New Ken Novelty Co. for many years. An avid golfer and bowler, Ray loved to dance at the Swing Shanty. Ray was the husband of the late Hedwick "Hattie" Calcagno, who died Jan. 18, 2013. In addition to his parents and his wife, he also was preceded in death by two brothers, Neno and Joseph Calcagno; and four sisters, Mary Corino, Lena Tomasik, Olga Veitch and Rosie DeBastini. Ray is survived by two daughters, Marianne (Randy) Lawrence, of Frisco, Texas, and Raynel (Joseph) Rotto, of Plum; two granddaughters, Alaina (Steve) Meehin and Randi Jean Lawrence; and two grandsons, Jody and Aaron Rotto. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at GIUNTA-BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME INC, JohnPaul Bertucci, Supervisor, 1509 Fifth Ave., Arnold, where Prayers of Transfer will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. A funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will conduct a military service at the cemetery.
