Richard E. Hansen

1936 - 2021

Richard E. Hansen, 85, of Allegheny Township, died peacefully at home Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021. Born Feb. 11, 1936, in Vandergrift, Richard was the son of Stella Wateska and Leroy Hansen, of Vandergrift. Mr. Hansen was employed by Wean United in Vandergrift until the plant closed, finishing his working life at various companies, including Voltz Environment and Lildja Contracting. He is survived by his wife 67 years, Eileen Spaniel Hansen; children, Michael (Alexa), of Pittsburgh, Denise (Kathleen), of Charleston, S.C., Cindy, of Seattle, Wash., Joel (Julie), of Allegheny Township, and Amy, of Seattle, Was.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Lisa (Anthony) Yarussi. Richard was passionate about many things, especially fly fishing and rooting on the Irish. At the top of his list was coaching: baseball, football, basketball, and track. Rich loved teaching young athletes the fundamentals, how to compete, and sportsmanship. Many A-K youth have fond memories of being tutored by Coach Hansen. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers or donations, you attend a youth sporting event, root for the home team, and thank the coaches afterward for their service. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, with Father Ken Zaccagnini as celebrant in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in, Lower Burrell. Arrangements have been entrusted to the DUNMIRE-KERR & ROWE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.
