Timothy Dean Obituary

Timothy J. ('Tim,' 'Timmy,' 'TD') Dean, 76, passed away in Cabot on May 14, 2024, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born to Margaret and James A. Dean, he is survived by his brother, James J. Dean of McMurray, PA. His sisters, Sister Margaret James ('Alice Ann') Dean of the Divine Providence Order and Gretchen Dean Johnson of Plano, TX, predeceased him. He adored his wife of 35 years, the late Dorene Gemza Dean. He was an awesome uncle to Jeff Dean (Houston, PA), Molly Dean Bittner (Richmond, VA), Eric Johnson (Norman, OK), Sarah Johnson (Plano, TX), Jessica Bauer (Philadelphia), and Amanda Caringi Risolo (Lansdale); as well as an adored great-uncle to Bo Bittner, Jimmy Bittner, Joe Johnson, Zane Johnson, Kate Duffy, Megan Duffy, Liam Duffy, Audrey Bauer, and Lily Risolo. He always remained close to his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Greg Caringi (North Wales, PA). Tim was born on Christmas Day in 1947 as a preemie, hence the name Tim, for Tiny Tim. He outgrew the 'Tiny,' topping out at 6'4'. He was a proud '66 graduate of Central Catholic High School, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a photographer. Honorably discharged in 1970, Tim moved to Las Vegas. Tim's first career revolved around cameras and photography, both in Las Vegas and when he returned to Pittsburgh in 1975. In 1976, Tim met the love of his life, Dorene, and they married in 1978. They eventually moved to Dorene's hometown, Leechburg. Tim retired after 25 years with Blackburn's Physicians Pharmacy in Tarentum. Tim was one of Pittsburgh's biggest sports fans, cheering on the Steelers, Pirates, and Pitt Panthers. Tim will be remembered for his endless jokes, animated storytelling, vast knowledge of useless trivia, fun and twinkling-eyed playfulness, and, above all, his never-faltering cheerfulness and ability to get along with everyone. Tim's wide circle of friends included those kept from his East End youth and those made decades later at the Sokol Club in Leechburg and the Praha in Tarentum. In recent years, he has gained an extended family at Concordia of Cabot, whose incredible staff treated Tim like their beloved brother or uncle. Friends will be welcomed by Tim's family from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the CLAWSON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CENTER, 170 Main Street, Leechburg, 724-842-1051. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township, with the Rev. Michael J. Sciberras as celebrant. Everyone, please meet at the church on Monday for the Mass. Private interment will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Concordia Lutheran Ministries for Cabot PC, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023. I was fortunate enough to meet Tim many years ago when he visited his dear niece, Molly Dean Bittner, and her family in Virginia. Luckily got to visit with him on several occasions and knew him to be a most warm, amiable, fun guy who I know will be deeply missed. He sure fought the good fight! RIP, Uncle Tim.

No one ever said that you had to like your in-laws. TD was the exception to the rule. Since we both married "Gemza girls", Tim and I became close friends over the many years. We shared interests in sports, music and photography. We both played golf very poorly, but always had a good time. Any time day spent with TD was a good day. Tim was a charming, smart, and witty guy. I laughed at all his terrible jokes. I listened to his improbable stories. Tim always started each day thinking the best would come. He never worried about things in his life that he could not change. It took me a few years to realize that he had the correct approach to living his life. We would all be better off and happier if we were a little more like Tim Dean. I will miss him. RIP TD!

Tim was our classmate at Pittsburgh Central Catholic and part of the class of 1966. We will be sending a memorial gift, in Tim's name, to Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, PA.
St. John Baptiste de la Salle, pray for Tim.

Tim always had a smile on his face and a joke ready to tell. If you were playing any kind of trivia game, you always wanted TD on your side. The amount of useless trivia on many subjects that he could remember was impressive. You were a valued part of our family since you met Dorene. I will miss you, Tim.

Timmy Dean was one of the Honest To Goodness kindest, funniest friend I´ve known. Even if he was having a not so good day, he´d put a smile on everyone around him!
