Verna E. Westergom

1947 - 2016

Verna E. (Parks) Westergom, 68, of Vandergrift, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016, at home. Born May 5, 1947, in Burrell Township, she was a daughter of the late James Arthur Parks and Ila E. (Yount) Parks. Verna lived in Vandergrift for the last 43 years and was a graduate of Ford City High School. She worked in housekeeping at West View Manor in Washington Township and for Bremans Trucking in Leechburg as a secretary and bookkeeper. Verna was a member of Pleasant View Brethren Church in Vandergrift. She enjoyed baking, sewing, reading good books, listening to music and tending to her flowers. Verna was known for her incredible rose and lilac bushes. She had a strong love for Jesus and throughout her life kept Him in her heart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Vada E. "Herc" Parks; and a son-in-law, Barry J. Lamison. Verna is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thomas A. Westergom; daughters, Kathy J. (Jeremy Blackham) Lamison, of Vandergrift, and Carey A. (Lindsey) Anderson, of Payne Springs, Texas; son, Jonathan M. (Kayla Stitt) Westergom, of Apollo; David (Holly) Hockenberry, of Butler, who was like a son to Verna; Lana (Bill) Thompson of Vandergrift, who was like a daughter to Verna; grandchildren, Chase J. (Alexxis Barr) Westergom, Justin Westergom, Tiffany (Doug Leipertz) Lamison, Danielle (Christopher) Wilcoxen, Nicole Anderson; great-granddaughter, Alora; sister, Velma Vensel, of Worthington; niece, Cindy (Joe) Cuffia; and nephew, Jerry Vensel.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2016, in the funeral home, with Pastor Todd Ruggles officiating. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family at Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
