DONNA WESTERING Obituary

Donna Westering Donna Belle Westering lived life proclaiming "Cast your bread upon the waters and it will come back with strawberry jam," always believing that The Lord would bless those who put their faith in Him! She was (and still is) a servant of Jesus, a wife of over 60 years, a mother of five, a grandmother of 13, and a great-grandmother of 11. One of the most powerful things reflected in her life was the humble, strong, sensitive, serving, loving and loyal partnership she shared with her late husband Frosty. Frosty was the leader, but Donna was the one who impacted him. Donna Westering (Donna Belle Jones) was born July 13, 1927 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She grew up knowing the love of a precious mother and three brothers. As early as second grade, Donna knew who the man of her life would be when she wrote on her pencil box about a classmate, "Donna loves Frosty." She pursued and participated in so many things, ranging from sports to being a drummer in the marching band (with Frosty). She was sought after by many yet had her sights set on only two; Jesus and Frosty, in that order. Donna graduated from high school with high academic, civic, leadership, music and beauty honors. Beauty honors came as the result of her being "first runner up" in the Miss Iowa beauty pageant with the winner moving on to Miss America! University of Iowa was her choice for college, where she was active in clubs, her sorority, and achieved high academic success, graduating with a teaching degree. During those four years, Frosty was in the Marines and they both decided to still stay in contact yet with "no strings attached." In the course of that time, many were standing in line to date Donna, whose heart was still with Frosty. Once he heard this news while in China via letters, Frosty quickly moved to write love poems and long letters to Donna, who waited for her Prince Frosty. Married in 1951, Donna with Frosty began a trek that would span over 50 years, deeply touching multiple communities through the vehicle of coaching football and their very presence of positively impacting anyone they came in contact with. She could be considered as much of a head coach as Frosty, giving birth to five children from 1952-1960 while also beginning her famous service of baking "Donna's Goodies" for every team he coached. Her life exemplified a servant, filled with a passion to surrender herself to whatever the call was on her life. Most importantly, Donna's call was to share the love of The Lord while praying for the multitudes. If she said she was praying for you, SHE WAS PRAYING FOR YOU! Her wit exceeded most with her ability to make one laugh, and her charm was like no other. Donna was instrumental in building the spiritual foundation in the Westering home. Her love for the Word of God throughout her life and her commitment to Bible Study Fellowship would engage her in conversations about "the joy of the Lord being her strength" and to "mount up with wings like eagles, to run and not be weary, to walk and not be faint." She knew almost as much about football as Frosty, yet would never suggest she should be on the sidelines due to the fact that she was always the loudest voice in the stands ringing her cheer cowbell! It is rare that the spouse of someone well known is equally as well known. Donna was...due to the impact she had on thousands of peoples' lives. The phrase, "Make The Big Time Where You Are" is the statement of a collaborative passion and focus on life lived out by Donna and Frosty. Donna Belle Westering lived life singing, shouting, and dancing from the mountain tops that Jesus is Lord! There is a powerful thought in knowing that the Bible states "We are fearfully and wonderfully made." And then to witness that Donna is proof of that very statement gives us ALL cause to say AMEN! A Celebration of Donna's life will be held at Fellowship Bible Church in Tacoma, Washington at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016. Please join us as we celebrate her life and remember how she "fought the good fight, finished the course and kept the faith" all to the glory of God! In lieu of flowers, you may direct a desired donation payable to Infaith Community Foundation, and send to 624 4th Ave. South, Suite 1500 Minneapolis, MN 55415, with "Frosty and Donna Westering Legacy Fund" written in the memo portion of the check.

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

Prentis JOHNSON

September 6, 2016

We send our condolence to the Westering Family in this time of transition and home going of Donna. Donna, as well as Frosty, had a very special place in my life. They not only impacted my life but also the lives of all those I come in contact with. Donna and Frosty showed me love when others failed to do so. Both symbolized the epitome of God's Love in action. I was shaped by God but sharpened by Donna and Frosty. They pulled the best out of me and taught me how to succeed in life through Jesus Christ.

I am forever grateful for their mentor-ship, inspiration, commitment, and dedication to the work of God. Donna and Frosty are gone to their heavenly reward but will never be forgotten. Their legacy will live on through their family, friends, and fellow-workers.

Our family was blessed to meet Donna Belle through our homeschool basketball team. Her daughter and son-in-law were the coaches and her granddaughters were on the team with our girls. We got to spend extensive time together at Nationals. Frosty and Donna blessed the families so much with their faith, love, wisdom and encouragement. Donna had such a gentleness and love for God that was so contagious! Donna Belle, ever confidence that you are loving the best jam ever! See you on the other side! The Lane Family

The Barnett family

The Barnett family would like to send our condolences to the Westering family. we will miss seeing her in the stands at the Rogers Basketlball games cheering on not only her granddaughter Jesse but the entire team. I only got to meet her and interact with her briefly at the games but she made a huge impact during that brief time. I can hear her saying " getting old isn't for sissies". She is with the Lord and her beloved husband Frosty, in that order.
When we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We'll sing and shout the victory

Donna's obituary is beautiful. It was nice to learn more wonderful things about her that my daughters and I didn't know. She was one special Christian lady! She loved JESUS, Frosty and her children and extended family just as God taught her too.
Her big, happy smile and constant enthusiasm for everyone she met made you feel like you were the most important person in the world! She shined for Jesus in all she did, living out Matthew 5:16
humbly as the servant of our Lord that she was! My family and I are blessed and better people for knowing her(and Frosty). And although we miss her and are sad she is no longer with us we rejoice she is in Heaven with Jesus, her beloved Frosty and our sweet Mike!
Sincerely, Mary Benson. Kristi and Kaarin and families

I was blessed to have Donna (Mama Westering) come into my life as I entered the crazy Junior High years. Dr. David Olson - Athletic Director at PLU - asked me to be a "pen pal" with Stacey before they moved to Washington. When they arrived in Parkland, Donna welcomed me with open arms for many after school snacks, soap operas, laughter and faith conversations. Peace to the family. You will be missed Donna, but we'll see you in His Kingdom.

So happy to have had so many years with both Frosty and Donna and while it's sad to say good-bye, it's with tremendous respect and love that I say "thank you" for giving me so many insights into life and how to love others for who they are. Donna and Frosty are two people who made such a huge and positive impact on so many (including myself) that it seems unlikely that anyone can capture all they have meant to so many for so long! Blessings to the Westering family and all who have been touched by these two incredible people!

Nothing like Donna. Coach's wives are the most amazing women, Donna was a Proverbs 31 woman. Her job was to love Frosty, love his players, and love everyone that came in contact with Lute football. THATA AWAY Donna.

Remembering Donna for her enthusiasm and support for the LUTES! The loudest voice in the stands, she supported Frosty and Scott with gusto!
