MARJORIE NUGENT Obituary

Marjorie Ann (Bergman) Nugent 'Margie' Nugent passed away from cancer at home in Tacoma on Saturday, March 11th, 2017, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. She grew up on the family farm in Puyallup, the youngest, and last surviving, of 7 children born to Oliver and Louise Bergman in 1929. After graduating from Puyallup High School in 1947, she attended the 'College' of Puget Sound before starting work as a legal secretary at Weyerhaeuser in 1951. Later, she worked with a dear friend at Pierce County Adoptions for 18 years, until her retirement. While at Weyerhaeuser, Margie went on a blind date with Henry 'Joe' Nugent, with whom she ultimately shared 57 years of loving marriage before he passed in 2010. In 1955, Margie and Joe joined Fircrest Golf Club, which became the entire family's home away from home. Over the years, rounds of golf, kids' events, club dances, meals, travel and bridge filled many happy days, until shortly before her death. Wonderful friendships were formed at Fircrest that lasted her entire life. She and Joe loved the sun, and enjoyed spending time in Hawaii, Mexico and Palm Desert with their many friends. She was also a long time active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Margie was a lightning fast typist, had an unbelievable memory, an amazing green thumb, and a love of gardening, cards (bridge and blackjack), and the occasional well-made martini. She never spoke an unkind word, and true to her Scandinavian heritage, never complained. Margie provided unconditional love and support for all her children and grandchildren's (mis)adventures, no matter the age, and celebrated each milestone and achievement, big and small. She particularly doted on her grandchildren, and was happiest when the entire family was together, as last Christmas, when she prepared brunch for the whole clan. Her family was blessed to have her gentle guidance, support and love all these years. Margie is survived by her children Nancy (Mark Messe), Mark, Vicky Selden (Scott), and grandchildren Lindsey, Megan and Nick Selden, as well as multiple nieces, nephews and extended family. At her request, there will be no memorial service. Memorial donations may be made to Franciscan Hospice, PO Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401.
