Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Michael L. Burbank US Army Staff Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

I don't know the family or SGT Burbank, but ran across his obituary while looking for the notice of a friend. However, I want the family to know how appreciative all Americans are that we have such individuals as SGT Burbank willing to stand and defend us. I weep at every loss of an American soldier, and thank God for SGT Burbank and all those who make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. God bless you all, and I pray that comfort and healing will soon reach you. SGT Burbank is an American hero.

A picture of Michael in Jordan

Michael Middleton

October 9, 2008

As I sit here and think back to when Michael came to our unit, there are many thoughts that run through my mind. This was in 1997 at FT Benning, GA. This was Michael's first duty station. He was assigned to B Co 2/69 AR, 3rd PLT. I was his gunner, and he was the loader for our tank crew. It has been a while since those days, but I still can remember his kindness, his laughter, and the hard work that he gave in all situations. I remember him always talking about his wife and his family back home. Although I was his squad leader, Michael and I had a lot of talks about life in general. He had a way of understaning and a 'nitch' for offering great advice. He had such a positive impact on my life. An impact that I see and feel today. The sadness that I feel because of his loss will never compare to that of his wife and family. You are all in our prayers. I know there are no words that I can type that can mend or erase the sadness that you all feel, except remember to turn to God for his help. I have enclosed a picture of us in Jordan. The time frame was late 1997 if I remember correctly. Omitting the Jordanians in the picture, from left to right are: then SSG Cornwall (now SGM), myself - then SGT Middleton (now CPT) and of course Michael. This picture I have framed and is on display in my office. Once again, you all are in my prayers. What a wonderful friend and great Soldier Michael was; he will forever be missed.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To the family and friends

I have only just begun this journey and have already found so many family’s sharing our pain.

I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one last month. I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue and pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.

As always I read (and cry) through the memorials of our lost hero’s, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I am amazed and take comfort that so many people care. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Michael have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine man.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Thank you, sir, for protecting my family and myself. I am truly sorry that your life had to be sacrificed in order to save mine. It is quite humbling and inspiring to see that people like yourself are willing to risk their lives for us, and in the meantime leaving behind a family who loves you and will always miss you. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Thank you, Michael, for your honorable service and the ultimate sacrifice made for your country, and your fellow man.

We honor you.

May our Creator wrap His loving arms around you and send His Comforter to be with your dear wife and family, that they may be braced up during this, their time of grief and mourning. May He grant unto them the blessed assurance that they will once again behold and embrace their loved one, on that glorious day when we gather to meet once again in His Presence. God be with you.
