Michael Masterson Obituary

Michael Masterson Died peacefully in the arms of his wife on October 12, 2007. Born on May 18, 1968 in Alton, Illinois, Mike was the 10th of 11 children. His mother, Sharon, brought Mike to Olympia in 1975 with his two brothers, Jeff and Rob. Mike graduated from Capital High School in 1986 and worked in restaurant management for the next several years. It was during this time that his oldest son, Brandon, was born, and he met Serena Dolly, the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. Mike and Serena moved to Centralia in 1995, so he could study broadcasting at Centralia College. He dreamed of being a sports radio personality. He soon discovered he did not want to work in radio, but he thrived in the academic environment. He continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Western Washington University in 1997 and graduating with honors, Order of the Coif, from the University of Washington School of Law in 1999. Following Mike's graduation from law school, the couple moved to Pierce County where Mike worked for a short time at the Department of Assigned Counsel. In 2001, he opened his own law practice in Tacoma. Mike and Serena married on April 1, 2002. Their daughter, Reyna, was born the following January. Their son, Jaden, followed in 2005. After Mike was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, the couple returned to Olympia to be closer to family. Mike was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed reading, fishing, political discussions, Ozzfest, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his wife and three children, Mike is survived by his mother and siblings Rob, Gwen, Jeff, Sherrie, David, Sue, Pam, Ed, and Debbie. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother Ken. He will be deeply missed by friends and family, including his wife's family who loved him as their own. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 20th at the Woodlawn Funeral Home in Lacey, Washington. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice or to a fund established by Mike's colleagues in Serena Dolly's name at Washington Mutual (Account #4213527471).

Mike was a personage and a presence--and these kinds of people are hard to replace--in fact, I'm not sure they can be replaced at all.

I was saddened by Mike's death.
He was a good lawyer, well liked by his peers and respected by the court.
I will miss his professionalism and
courteous manners in court.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family.
