NEIL RICHARDSON Obituary

Neil Richardson Neil, age 85, of Tacoma, Washington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 24, 2018. Neil was born in McPherson, Kansas to Lester and Martha Richardson on January 7, 1933. He attended Clover Park High Schools, graduating with the class of 1953. Clover Park High School is where he met his wife Paula (Rantalla). That same year, on November 7, 1953, in Lakewood, Washington, the two married. He was drafted into the Army upon graduation to his first assignment tour in Toul, France, where his newly-wed wife joined him. In 1955, at the conclusion of his Army tour, Neil returned home and took over the well-drilling business his father Lester started in 1939. In 1962 Neil started the water utility business known as Rainier View Water Company. In the years to follow, Rainier View has developed into the largest privately-owned water utility in the State of Washington. What began as a dream in 1985 became a reality in 1989 when Neil started Mountain Mist Bottling Company. He started out making deliveries in his own pickup truck from a 200 square-foot plant, which has grown into a 55,000 square-foot multi-line production facility, supported by a fleet of vehicles that deliver bottled water to many homes and offices throughout numerous states under the Mountain Mist label, as well as under private-label branding. Neil was preceded in death by both his parents, sister Mary Ann Pitzler, brothers Floyd and Clinton Richardson, and daughter-in-law Pamela Richardson. Neil is survived by his wife of 64 years, Paula, brother James Richardson, daughter Paula Lynne (Michael) McKinney, son Rick (Lana) Richardson, daughter Lori (Randy) Cross, grandchildren Nichole (Patrick) Eltrich, Michelle Richardson, Aaron Richardson, Katherine (Brian) Uber, Blair McKinney, Stephanie Cross, Melissa Cross, Briana Cross, and Rene (Troy) Fairchild, and great-grandchildren Phoebe Eltrich, Paxton Stray, Amailee Niz, Xavier Niz, and Troy Fairchild, Jr. Funeral services will be held at Star Center, 3873 S. 66th St., Tacoma, WA 98409 on Saturday, April 7th, at 3:00pm, with Ron Ganzer of Parkway Presbyterian officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Memorial Fund would be appreciated. Neil and Paula are charter members of Parkway Presbyterian Church, and would like to express their appreciation for the support and blessings the church has given to them both. The Richardson family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Tacoma General Hospital ER Team, 6th floor nurses and doctors, Olympic Sports and Spine, and Life Care Center South Hill for all their consistent support.

I have been blessed to work for Rainier View for 24 years now. I cannot begin to express the admiration I have for Neil and the way he treated me as a valued employee, always wanting to know how life was going. You truly treated your employees as family. I have been so inspired by your drive and love for what you have built.
My prayers are with the family for comfort.

As I sit here and I look at your picture all I can do is smile. I remember my first week working for your companies, you can through the front doors and you said who the new girl with a huge smile on your face. I introduced myself and shot you back a huge smile. I am going to miss seeing that smile every time you come in and out the front doors of the office. It was an honor to work for you. May the Lord bring Peace to your family during this time. Your memory will forever live within our hearts.

Love,
Sherese

I'm blessed to have met and worked for the Richardson family. Who, for years have took on many risks and challenges to develop a business empire in the water industry and create many jobs for families in Western Washington. Very few men live to work like yourself, rest in peace, and thank you.

I'll never forget you trying to sing Happy Birthday (over the phone while you were in the hospital) to me this year even though you could barely talk. I know just how important your company and the people who worked here were to you. Thank you for everything :)

Neil, thank you for allowing me the honor of coming to know you and your family, and for everything that you've done for mine.

Words can't properly express the gratitude I feel in working for one of your companies but being treated as though I were a valued member of the family, not just a number in a vast sea of employees. For someone like me who lost both my parents many years ago, and who doesn't have extended family of my own, that meant the world to me - more than anyone could ever understand.

For that reason, I'm so grateful I was able to see you before you moved on; not being able to say goodbye to my own parents was something I've always regretted. Something that haunts me to this day. So when I came to visit you and the light shown in your eyes reflected that you still knew who exactly who I was, that set my heart at ease. That moment ... will forever be a treasured memory I'll hold close and dear in my heart. Always.

I hope and pray that your soul is now free to soar through the heavens, and just know that your incredible life will forever be imprinted upon the hearts of everyone you left behind.

Rest in peace, Neil. Thank you for everything.

With love and gratitude, Soknou.
