Sue Zukowski Obituary

Susan (Sue) Emma Zukowski Susan (Sue) Emma Zukowski passed away peacefully in the presence of family on July 9 th at Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington after a valiant battle to recover from respiratory distress following lung surgery. She was the widow of John R. Zukowski (Captain Jack) who passed away in 2001. They shared 44 adventurous years together. She spent several recent years as a companion to Richard Rewolinski, also widowed, who passed in 2015. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Rebecca Jane and Charles Henry Burrows. She became a nurse at 50 years old after raising seven children and worked at Saint Clare hospital for nine years. She retired from nursing to care for her husband during his difficult battle with cancer. She volunteered her time and love to Saint Charles Borromeo Parrish where she sent all seven children to school, sang in the choir and performed all sorts of computer tasks for the church library, bible school and members of the congregation. She also did photo shop and artistic work for her friends, the priests at Saint Charles and for the Knights of Columbus. She never asked to be paid and asked anyone wanting to pay her to donate to the food bank in her name. She supported her Church fund raising campaigns and the American Cancer Society. She loved her flower garden and enjoyed an independent and satisfying life in her final years. She will be remembered for her wit, humor and service to others. Sue is survived by seven children, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her daughters and their families include: Maryanne Zukowski, daughter Kayci Zukowski; Annette Pearson, husband Duane Pearson and children Conrad, Kyle and Gabrielle Pearson; Elaine Zukowski, children Lewis (Peyton) and Rebecca (Becki) Waskey; and Jessica Dalton, who is married to Brad Dalton and with children Miles and Luke Dalton; and Colleen Taylor, husband Mark Taylor, children Joshua and Daniel Taylor. Sue's sons and their families include: John R. Zukowski Jr.; Andrew Zukowski, wife Amy Zukowski and children Matthew and Natasha Zukowski; and Matthew Zukowski. A vigil will be held 5 PM on Sunday the July 15th and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM on Monday July 16th both at Saint Charles Borromeo Parrish in Tacoma. A lunch will be held following the funeral mass at the adjacent Saint Charles Borromeo School. Inurnment at Tahoma National Cemetery.
