WENDY WEYERHAEUSER Obituary

Wendy Wagner Weyerhaeuser September 13, 1927 - September 11, 2014 We remember a wife and mother who naturally, instinctively transmitted her love of nature, her adventuresome spirit, and her goodwill to all. She was a woman beyond words. She shared with us her sense of humor, her love of gardening and cooking and welcoming others into her home and life. She effortlessly wove fun and joy into everything she did in life. She treated all people with respect and a personal interest in who they were. She loved us unconditionally and her lessons of respect and even more importantly trust will stay with us forever. We know that for all the individuals who were touched by her, this will be a tremendous loss. Up until the very end of her struggle against formidable physical problems, she continued to be able to think of others and care about how they were feeling. She was a partner in one of the most enduring, productive, inspirational marriages of all time. Wendy and George celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on July 10th, with Wendy using her dwindling energies to choose flowers, which she arranged beautifully for George. Wendy was the daughter of Eulalie and Corydon Wagner. She grew up in downtown Tacoma and on Gravelly Lake. She attended Annie Wright Seminary, The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and Finch College in New York City. During their marriage George and Wendy lived in Hamden, CT, Longview, WA and Eugene, OR, before moving to Tacoma in March 1957. Wendy is survived by her brother, Corydon Wagner, and his wife Judy; her sister, Merrill Wagner Ryman and her husband Robert Ryman. One of the hardest events of her life was when her beloved son, George, died on April 14, 2013. Again deep grieving came this summer with the passing of her grandson, Karl Griggs, on July 14th. She is loved and mourned by her surviving children Leilee Weyerhaeuser, Kathy McGoldrick, Susan Messina, Phyllis and Mark Griggs, David and Sarah Weyerhaeuser, and Merrill Weyerhaeuser and Patrick Welly. They are joined in grief by Hal Reiter and Michael Messina. She is also mourned by her surviving fifteen grandchildren, and their spouses: Aaron, Christina, Kyle, Hayley and Cody Reiter; Walker, Allison, Corydon and Kayla Weyerhaeuser; Megan and Kyle Redfield, Alyssa and Jessica Messina; Nataliya and Naomi Griggs; Kaylee, Jake, and Natalie Weyerhaeuser; Sierra and Jasper Welly. The most recent joys in her life are her four great-grandchildren: Evianna and Noah Reiter, Elin Redfield, and Johanna Weyerhaeuser. No one will miss her more or treasure the memories of her life more than her lifelong mate and love, George Weyerhaeuser. The family would like to thank numerous healthcare professionals for their compassionate care and so many others for their outpouring of love and support. A memorial will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Lakewold Gardens, the Corydon G. Wagner Fund for Nursing Education at Multicare Health Foundation or the Tacoma Community Foundation.

Dear George, I am very sadden by this news. There are so very many memories and Wendy was always so kind to me. I was so pleased to have found her at a May Day reunion 5 or so years ago where we could catch up a bit. Thank you for all those childhood moments!

The apple did not fall from the tree as Wendy Weyerhaeuser and her mother were the 2 most charming, gracious, thoughtful and charitable individuals to grace the Earth.

It took me a week to be able to write anything that comesclose to expressing my deep sorrow to all of you neighbors at what is one of the most substantial losses I have experienced. I had the great pleasure in knowing her for over 50 years. She held the best "summer camp" in which every child anywhere around partook. Always entertaining us in carpool by tapping break in time to the radio, getting pulled over by police for running a red light because "officer there are childre in the farback that could get hurt if I slam on the brakes!!" Then there was the Q.E.2 out of gas on the side of the road. I hope this tiny slice of part of her amazing generosity of spirit and sense of humor can put even a little smile on your facesto trump the tears. I love you all as family. Thanks Wendy, for the memories.

It was my privilege to visit Wendy at her home several times, and so many elements of her character described in this beautiful obituary were so readily apparent. My thoughts go out to Pat, Merril, George and the rest of the Weyerhauser family

Wendy never forgot anyone no matter the lapse in time. As she held your hand and smiled impishly as she told you who you were and when she last saw you she subtly taught you a defining lesson. We all mattered. We were all worth remembering. A great, great lady.

My deepest condolences to George and all of the Weyerhaeuser family on the passing of Wendy. I had the pleasure of meeting Wendy when my brother Pat married Merrill. Wendy was the ultimate hostess- no one was a stranger in her house. She had such a great sense of style and fun. But, what I remember the most about Wendy was her tremendous love and devotion to her family. I hope the great memories of a life well lived will comfort you in your grief. God Bless!

What a sense of fun! I'll never forget sitting at the dinner table and discovering candy peas mixed in with the fresh ones. And I'll never forget the look on Wendy's face when she was caught in the prank.
My heart and prayers go out to every family member. Much love to you all.

Dear George, we are so sorry to hear of Wendy's passing. We fondly remember what a beautiful person Wendy was. She was so loving to my girls Brooke and Dana. She made us feel so welcomed the first time we met you both in 1994 at Smoke Tree Ranch and the many years that followed visiting with Bob and Roxy at Hernando Island and Yellowknife. Wendy was a trooper putting on the bug jacket and pants to play in the midnight golf tournament in Yellowknife. I can still hear her giggling about how stylish she was in that outfit. Our thoughts are with you and your family. XO

Wendy you will be missed but we all will see you soon enough. You were an inspiration to all of those who knew you or met you. I know my parents loved you and I also know The Chevy Chase group is having a very wonderful outing right now welcoming you back. You made quite a mark and the family you built and left to grow on is a legacy of love and courage, and great achievement. You had a wonderful life and time here and I thank you for knowing you as I grew up. George my thoughts are with you. Frank Cutler

My best memories of working for Weyerhaeuser Company reflect on those wonderful days in the Mt. St. Helen's blast zone. It was always special when George and Governor Dixie Lee Ray would come in on helicopter and do their annual visit to review our progress in reforestation. It was a fantastic company to have a career with. We had a great day on Mt. St. Helens in 2012, when George, Charlie and Jack got to tour there with some of us foresters. I'm very sorry for the lose of Wendy.
