WILLIAM LUEBKE Obituary

William and Patricia Luebke William "Bill" Luebke went home to be with the Lord on June 6th, 2015. Patricia "Pat" (King) Luebke joined her loving husband of 69 years on January 15th, 2016. They were preceded in death by their son William Jr., Bill's parents William and Marie Luebke, Pat's parents George and Catherine King, sister Dorothy Paulson, and her brother Colin King. They are survived by their daughter Leslie Doyle and her husband Michael, sister Kay Czichas, and numerous nephews and nieces. Bill was born on August 23rd 1926 in Everett, Washington. He graduated from Franklin High School in Tacoma and the University of Puget Sound. Bill was an active and positive influence all of his life. He was a retired captain from the Tacoma Police Department with over 30 years of service and Medal of Valor, he was a Rotarian and Mason, and both he and Pat were very active in Eastern Star. He served as president of the Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival, started the 4th of July Air Show Extravaganza in Tacoma, and was the chief security officer at the Western Washington Fair for many years. He was very patriotic and served in the Air Force during 1945 through 46. After Pat and Bill moved to Leavenworth over 25 years ago, he served on the Leavenworth City Council, was Mayor of Leavenworth, Chairperson of the Columbia River Area Agency on Aging Advisory Committee, a member of the Advisory Group contributing to the success of the Mountain Meadows project, was active in establishing the current Leavenworth Senior Center, and was elected and served as hospital Commissioner for Cascade Medical Center working diligently on the remodel/renovation for the hospital into what now serves Leavenworth and the surrounding areas. Pat was born on March 4th 1926 in Tacoma. She also graduated from Franklin High School in Tacoma. She retired from the retail clerks' union in the early 1980's. She loved fashion and was always impeccably groomed. Her passions were books and animals, having rescued many animals in distress. She had volunteered with the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, and was very active with the Leavenworth United Methodist Church Women's group. Bill and Pat met in 1945 and were married in Seattle, Washington on July 4th 1946. They traveled the world and finally agreed that the best place to be was Hawaii, where they spent several months each year. They will be sorely missed by their daughter, son-in-law, and many friends. Any donations may be made to the Leavenworth Senior Center, 423 Evans Street, P.O. Box 1033, Leavenworth Washington 98826, or the charity of your choice.
