Sterling Hubbard Sr.

HUBBARD - Sterling Hubbard Sr., 73, passed away Sept. 24, 2025, at Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Sterling was born Aug. 13, 1952, in Kingsland, Ga., to the late Arthur and Vivian Hubbard. He was the 11th born of 13 children. He attended the Camden County Training School and graduated from Ralph J. Bunche High School, class of 1969.
In February 1970, he enlisted in U.S. Air Force, where he served as security police until his honorable discharge in May 1979. During his tenure, while stationed in the Philippines, he met and married Ligaya "Happy" in 1971. Through their union, they had three children, Marcus, Sterling Jr. and Rosita. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to St. Marys, Ga., to raise his family.
In September 1981, Sterling began working for the Public Works Department at the Trident Refit Facility in Kings Bay, Ga. He attended Brunswick Junior College and Valdosta State College via programs offered at Kings Bay, Ga., where he earned his B.S. Degree in Trade & Industrial Education, graduating cum laude in 1986. In 1989, Sterling began his final career as a senior electronic specialist with Lockheed Missile & Space Company in Kings Bay, Ga.
Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Vivian Hubbard; brothers, Eugene, Hosea, Arthur Lewis, Wardell, Willie and Michael; sister, Elizabeth Sabb; and eldest son, Marcus Hubbard.
Sterling is survived by his sisters, Vola McCartney of Miami, Fla., Fannie Richo of Jacksonville, Fla., and Fostina Mitchell of St. Marys, Ga.; two brothers, Jack Hubbard and Enoch Hubbard, both of St. Marys, Ga.; son, Sterling Hubbard Jr. (Lisa) of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Rosita Hubbard (Mario) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; ex-wife, "Happy" (Nikko) of Tampa, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Sarah Hubbard of St. Marys, Ga., and Willie Marie Hubbard of Woodbine, Ga.; and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, special kinships, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
