Robbie Jean (Vasseur) Thomasson peacefully passed away on Nov. 14, 2022 in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born in Calvert City, on Aug. 19, 1941, to Raymond Vasseur and Bessie McCoy Vasseur. Robbie was the youngest of nine.
She spent her formative years in Calvert City, Kentucky growing up on farmland and watched over by Betty Donohoo. Robbie graduated from North Marshall High School in 1959.
After graduating from Draughon's Business College in Paducah, she used her shorthand certification in the administrative offices of GENERAL ANALINE FILM Chemical Plant in Calvert City. After giving birth to her two daughters, she worked for the Marshall County School System as a beloved lunch lady and speedy school bus driver. Later she returned to GAF now called ISP, but this time working on the manufacturing floor as a chemical operator alongside her husband, Jimmy Thomasson, and dear friend William "Bill" Weaks. At home, she managed the household, tended the animals, and drove heavy farm equipment in the early mornings. She raised her two daughters, Sandye and Kim, on the farm, cooked home meals and made faith their biggest priority.
After the birth of her first grandchild, she officially moved to Dallas, Texas, and was granted the prestigious title of "Gaga". There she helped raise her three grandchildren who she adored. She became well known at their school, Trinity Christian Academy, as a joyous snack provider to the children, supporter in any sport stand and prayer warrior to many families. Gaga was well loved by many and also known to give love right back through her infectious smile, by very large home-cooked meals or treats, or thoughtful cards. She was also well known by everyone to be an Elvis fan, shopping addict, and always aspiring nascar driver. She had what most would call a lead foot, whether that was driving the school bus, down any county road or highway alike. On most of the road trips, whether to Six Flags, Graceland, or The Grand Ole Opry, her beloved husband would be reminding her to slow down, look out for coppers, or that they couldn't afford another ticket, her usual response was, "Now, Jimmy, Let me Drive".
However, it was her vivacious outlook on life that kept her love for memory making, family, and faith her highest priorities. She always wanted to give family, friends, and even strangers more than she ever had growing up and could be defined as The Lord's Servant. In the summers back home, she would invite all family members over for food, allow children to race around the fields in various motorized toys, and most importantly "sit around and talk about nothin" which is now a famous family phrase.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jimmy Thomasson; two daughters, Sandye Silvera and Dr. Kimberly Crawford; three grandchildren, Amanda Silvera Morgan and her husband, Cole Morgan, Austin Silvera, and Daniel Crawford, all of Dallas, Texas; two nephews, Mark Donohoo and his wife Scherri Donohoo, their three children, Josh, Courtney, and Ethan; and Jeff Donohoo and his wife Nan Donohoo, their two children, Alicia and Jordan of Calvert City; along with nephews and nieces, Keith Vasseur, Kay Vasseur, Kerry Vasseur, David Puckett, Debbie McDuffy, Donna Cayton, Robin Long, Cindy Adams, Tammi LaManna and Ronda Chambers
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight Vasseur, Billy Roe Vasseur and Harold Eugene Vasseur; five sisters, Elwanda Puckett, Eleanor Noles, Sue Harris, Betty Donohoo, and Peggy Powell, and her parents; Raymond Vasseur and Bessie McCoy Vasseur.
The funeral service was held Saturday, December 3, in the Ellis Chapel at Park Cities Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to JDRF North Texas at 8140 Walnut Hill Ln, #810, Dallas TX, 75231 or www.jdrf.org; or The Faith Presbyterian Hospice facility where she spent her last few days. www.faithpreshospice.org/support/.
