Boyd Keith Markfelder, 92, of Richland, WA, passed away July 26, 2012, at home in Richland. He was born and raised in Wolf Point, MT, where he attended Catholic Church and served as an altar boy. He felt pride when a woman requested him to be altar boy at her wedding.

He graduated from Staples High School and went on to work in CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) during the depression. When World War II began, Boyd joined the Air Force and served in the Pacific Theater, being promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Boyd enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was very proud of the births of his three children, and later the birth of his granddaughter in 1990. He was directly involved with Little League and Indian Guides during his son's elementary school years.

He once drove the Alcan Highway (mostly gravel at the time) to Alaska in 1963 for a 3-week family vacation, and often vacations were spent rock hunting for the Ellensburg Blue Agates on Blewett Pass. Golf was also a preferred pastime: He got a hole in one at Sham Na Pum golf course in 1990, on a 169 yard hole. He also placed in top five in their division in Walla Walla Country Club Father/Son golf tournament.

Boyd was an Engineering Technician with various Hanford companies for 40 years. He was highly regarded by his coworkers and known as a reliable and hard worker. At one point, he was recognized for 10 years with no sick time.

Survivors include son Bruce Markfelder and wife Carlene; daughter Janice Clayton and husband Dennis; granddaughter Hilary Hull.

Preceding him in death were his wife June; daughter Darvi Hull; his parents, John and Mollie Markfelder; sisters Joan and Shirley; brother Dennis.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012 at Memories at Sunset Event Center, Richland. Graveside inurnment and reception will follow.
