BRUCE BENEDICTSON Obituary

DR. BRUCE BENEDICTSON Dr. Bruce Benedictson, 64 of Daytona Beach, FL passed away on Saturday April 23, 2016. He was born in Richland, WA, October 25th, 1951 to Bruce and Nancy (Churchill) Benedictson. Bruce spent his early years growing up in Richland, attending Jason Lee Elementary and Chief Jo Jr High. In 1965 his father's engineering career with General Electric took him to Picayune, MS, Gainesville, FL and Daytona Beach FL. He graduated from Sea Breeze High School in Daytona Beach FL in 1969 and attended the University of Florida home of the GATORS where he received a BS in Chemistry and was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. He attended the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond VA, graduating with his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree. He married his high school sweetheart Cindy Seegmiller, Professor in Psychology at Daytona State College. They were married for 17 years. Bruce opened his dental practice in Daytona Beach, FL in 1973 and celebrated the birth of their son Derek in 1984. Derek followed in the footsteps of his father graduating from University of Florida with a degree in Business Marketing. Go Gators! Bruce married Stephanie Wilson life long partner of 30 years in 2015, who cared for him and loved him dearly. Together they built a successful dental practice focusing on healing, comfort, and quality dental care for the past 40 years. They enjoyed decades of traveling and celebrating with friends & family! Bruce valued the support of his colleagues. He was a member of the Volusia-Flagler County Dental Association and Florida Dental Association. He continued to give back to the community by always helping those in need regardless the situation. Health and well-being were top priorities when it came to the care of his patients. Challenges in life were met with courage and determination. His proficiency in French took him to travels abroad along with mastering the skills of sailing, scuba diving, and skiing the slopes of the Appalachians. He loved everything about life, from people, to animals and nature. He would want us to celebrate his dash!! It's not about the beginning or the end. Bruce was preceded in death by sister, Claudette and parents Bruce and Nancy Benedictson. He is survived by wife Stephanie Wilson Benedictson, son Derek Benedictson, niece Melanie Johnston, and sister Pamela Benedictson Johnston. Bruce was my dentist for 38 years. He was a really nice man, worked with me when I did not have the funds for what needed to be done to maintain my teeth. Was a sad day when I found out of his passing.

Bruce was one of my heroes, and I was thinking of him just yesterday. I remember when we were crew in a sailboat race. Bruce and I had the midnight watch. We were offshore just south of New Smyrna after we rounded the mark off of Cape Canaveral and caught the north-flowing current of the Gulf Stream.

I loved Dr. Benedictson! He has been my dentist for 18 years and my daughter's dentist her whole life! I was recommended to him on emergency on New Years Eve and I trusted home and respected him so much. So kind! So thoughtful! He will be sorely missed. God Bless his family. My prayers are with you.

Bruce was my dentist for 38 years. Doing the every 6-month check-ups. Sometimes I had no funds, and he would do what needed to be done. In time, he would get paid. But how many dentists's will do anything unless you have insurance or money in hand?
He was a great man in my eyes, and I am truly sorry for his passing. Finding a new dentist with your kindness, courtesies, and overall character will be really hard to find. You will be thought of and missed Bruce. Your friend, Gary Burdick

I met Bruce many decades ago while attending Daytona State (then DBCC) and liked him instantly. I recognized him to be very genuine and caring and dedicated to those around him. Always fun and light-hearted, he laughed easily and had an intelligence that was amazing and engaging. Bruce was one of those rare folks who you could just feel was in a room. He radiated positive energy and hope and treated everyone he met with dignity and respect. Really, just a lot of fun to be around. He always had that boyish charm too that drew people from all walks of life to him. He will be missed by a multitude of people and as I type these words, I feel great loss knowing he is not in this physical world anymore. I will really miss him and know he is in a fantastic place. He was lucky to have his awesome wife, Stephanie, who was his loving companion for decades. Rest in Peace Bruce. We love you and you rock:-)
