Dean Anderson Obituary

Dean Edward Anderson

June 20, 1948 - December 13, 2023

Kennewick, Washington - Dean Edward Anderson was born June 20, 1948 to Ernest and Mary Elizabeth Anderson in Eugene Oregon.

Dean went through school in Springfield and graduated in 1966 from Springfield High. He attended Lane Community College to receive a 2 year Business Degree before he was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1969. Dean was stationed on Hill 65 in Da Nang shooting mortar in the Bush. He got lucky on his first R&R when a Marine Corps Captain took a liking to him and hired him on the spot as his personal driver for he and his dog in Da Nang and Saigon.

Dean returned home in 1971 to begin a lifelong career with JCPenney. He worked at the Eugene Oregon store from 1972-1980, then was transferred to Fairbanks Alaska where he made some amazing memories and life long friends. In 1988 Dean was transferred to Kennewick Washington, where he settled down and has called home for 35 years. Dean retired from JCPenney in 1997. These were some of the happiest years of his life. After retirement Dean was the bookkeeper at Franki & Company where he was adored by many.

Dean was an avid fisherman his entire life and spent many days bass fishing locally or meeting up with his high school buddies to fish the McKenzie.

If the sun was shining, Dean could be found tending to his beautifully manicured gardens, golfing the links at Canyon Lakes or walking his little buddy Jake at the library park. The hotter the better for Dean.

Dean was known to be the strong silent type and only spoke when he had something important to say. Dean was devoted to his friends a true gentleman who'd do anything for you. He will be missed by many.

Dean is survived by his son James, granddaughter Kasey, brother Gordon, sister in law Thelma, numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is proceeded in death by his mother Mary Liz, father Ernest, brother Wally, and daughter Angela.

Rest in peace Dean, you were one of a kind. Semper Fi.

I went to school with Dean from the first grade at Brattain Elementary through high school at Springfield High. I had a nice visit with him at our reunion last September. He looked great and was having a good time. I can hardly believe he is gone! My condolences to his family and friends. You will be missed my friend, RIP.
