Ed was born in Detroit, MI, on April 16, 1916, to Edward Sr. and Lerea Coats. As Ed walked to school he would set traps for small animals and then retrieve them on his way home. While attending school he met Leola. She was his childhood sweet heart and they were married in 1947.

Ed had a passion for hunting and fishing, He loved to teach his grandchildren the tricks to a good catch. Ed also shared his secrets with friends. He and his wife spent most of their summer days at Mardon Resort where he was named the Walleye Man. You would always find Ed and Leola out in their boat, trolling for the tasty fish.

During World War II he worked in defense plants where he turned out shells. Ed was a carpenter and worked for various contractors. In 1978 he was offered a job as the Carpenter Superintendent for Wright Schuchart Harbor and assigned at Boise Cascade, WA. Ed retired in 1980, He and his wife stayed in Pasco, WA, where they resided until a year ago when they moved in with their son Jack in Kennewick.
