HELEN GREGORY Obituary
Nov. 26, 1920 - March 10, 2010
Helen Margaret (Carroll) Gregory, 89, passed away in Vancouver, WA, on March 10, 2010. She was born on November 26, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, and met her future husband Wayne at a USO dance in Fort Dix, N.J., during World War II. After he returned from the European front, Helen and Wayne were married on August 3, 1946, in Spokane, WA. Their daughters Lynne and Laurel were raised in Vancouver.
Helen and Wayne moved to Kennewick, WA, in 1974 and together they spent many happy years enjoying the desert sunshine and playing bridge with a large network of friends from the Kennewick and Richland Newcomers clubs. They also shared a lifelong love of animals. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006.
Besides being an excellent bridge player, Helen loved dancing, country music, ocean cruises, reading, watching classic movies, and playing with her grandchildren in the family swimming pool. She was a Life Member of the Benton-Franklin Humane Society.
Helen returned to Vancouver to be close to her family after Wayne passed away in 2007. She enjoyed her apartment and meeting new friends amongst the residents and staff at Clearwater Springs.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Wayne, and cherished sisters Ann Quinn and Rosemary Wilson.
Helen is survived by: her daughters and their spouses, Lynne Olson (Don) of Vancouver, WA, and Laurel Gregory (Terry Powell) of Kailua-Kona, HI; her granddaughters, Lorrie Erickson (Steve) of Camas, WA, and Christy Harper (Jason) of Vancouver, WA; her great-grandsons, Aaron Erickson, Alex Erickson, and Gavin Harper; and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service in Vancouver will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society, 8620 W. Gage Blvd., Kennewick, WA 99336

Aunt Helen will be greatly missed, I spent many "summer vacations" with Wayne and Helen. They could always find a "chore" to do, and then would reward me with a trip to Red Lobster. We even manages to accomplish that in October, I just didn't quite make it back to finish the list.

I will miss my dear Grandma very much. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Grandma and Grandpa Gregory growing up. Many of these memories are my most cherished childhood experiences that I will never forget. My sister and I were so lucky to have such a great relationship with our Grandparents. They always had so much energy and there was never a dull moment when we were with them. I will always remember watching The Price is Right with Grandma, and the fact that she could outlast everyone else staying up at night. I am so happy that Grandma got to know her great-grandsons, but wish she could have met her great-granddaughter who will soon arrive. I love and miss you Grandma.

My husband and I always enjoyed seeing Helen when we stopped by Clearwater to see my father. She was often sitting outside, reading a book and enjoying the sun. She always had a cheerful smile and greeting for us. Our condolences on your loss.

I have lovely memories of Helen and Wayne as I was growing up in Hazel Dell. They were always warm and welcoming. My sympathies to Lynne, Laurel and all the family.
