Michael Fitzgibbons Obituary

Michael John Fitzgibbons

June 24, 1941 - December 12, 2024

Mountlake Terrace, Washington - Michael John Fitzgibbons of Mountlake Terrace, Washington, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 24, 1941, Michael was a lifelong learner and a dedicated servant to the Episcopal church and his community.

After graduating from Ballard High School in 1959 and earning a degree in History from the University of Washington, Michael pursued a calling to the ministry. He attended the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California, and was ordained as an Episcopal priest.

Throughout his career, Michael served in various roles, including parish priest, counselor, and vocational rehabilitation specialist. He dedicated his life to helping others, particularly those struggling with addiction and facing life's challenges.

In 2020, Michael relocated to Seattle, Washington to live closer to family who could assist him with his health symptoms. Moving back to Seattle also allowed Michael to re-kindle old friendships, socialize with peers and spend more time with his grandson.

Michael was a man of faith, humor, and deep compassion. He enjoyed the beauty of nature, loved telling animated stories and jokes, and cherished connecting with people. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many lives he touched.

Michael was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin (1994) and his parents Virginia Lorraine Fitzgibbons (1995) and James F. Fitzgibbons (1997).

He is survived by his son, Daniel and daughter-in-law, Sara and grandson, Owen Fitzgibbons. He is also survived by his brother Kerry and sister-in-law Dawn Fitzgibbons.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 5710 22nd Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107.
