Richard Guidry Obituary
Richard (Rick) Odeon Guidry, Sr., of Pasco, Washington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on January 22, 1947, in Kellogg, Idaho, Rick spent his childhood fishing, climbing mountains, and joyfully sharing his faith in service.
In the early days of computer technology, Rick worked as a computer programmer, embracing innovation long before it became part of everyday life. Beyond his work, he was best known as a devoted Jehovah's Witness, a casual fisherman, and a gifted storyteller who cherished connecting with others.
Rick was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Ann Guidry (Wilson); his parents, Richard Guidry and Dorothy Guidry (Thompson); and his eldest son, Richard Odeon Guidry, II.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce Eilene Guidry (Hetterle); his children, Amanda Jeanine Erickson (Guidry), Donald Peter Desmond (Des) Guidry, Geoffry Langdon Guidry, Joel Vincent Guidry, Natalie Jean Stafford (Guidry), Laura Lynn Curtis (Guidry), Leah Louise Guidry, Samantha Jane Guidry, and Rudolph Hetterle Guidry; his step-children, Loretta Lea MacMillan, Susan Jurene Breazeal (MacMillan), and Jennie Lea MacMillan; as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
One of Rick's favorite stories to tell was about going out in service as a boy with his father. On a bitter winter day, someone scolded his dad for dragging him through the cold and asked if Rick wouldn't rather be inside with hot chocolate. Rick would always grin and say, "No, I was happy to be out with my dad plus, I never liked hot chocolate anyway." That story summed him up perfectly: dedicated to his faith, devoted to family, and never afraid to be a little contrary.
His children fondly remember evenings when he read aloud from "My Book of Bible Stories" or the Bible itself, played "Kingdom" Melodies on his harmonica, or occasionally took them fishing - simple moments that left a lasting legacy of faith, music, and love.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Trios for the care and compassion shown to Rick in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rick's honor to the worldwide work of Jehovah's Witnesses.
