VIRGINIA ACKER Obituary

Herring Groseclose Funeral Home

Virginia Acker was born on 11/26/46 in Merrill, Wisconsin, to Betty and Edwin Sukow. She lived in the Walla Walla Valley since 1993. She was an RN for 35 years with experience in multiple specialties, but her real passion was taking care of newborn babies and new moms in the OB unit.

Mom lived a life full of activity. Her joy was to spend as much time as she could with her kids and grandkids, playing with them and loving them. She didn't care what she was doing with her family as long as they were near. Her greatest happiness was when all of us were together in one place. When she wasn't working or spending time with family she spent time travelling the world: from Fiji to Africa to Europe. She was much loved by her friends and family and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. at the City Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Mark Etchell officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to ADRA for Africa through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.

I remember living with my sister Virginia when I was a rowdy 15 year old in Lacome, Alberta. She had the patience of a Saint. She was always there to lend an encouraging word. I would not be the person I am today if I had not shared that time with her. It is impossible for words to describe how much of a wonderful person she was. The sorrow I have is only tempered with the knowledge that I will see her again. This is our blessed hope.

I met Virginia at Lourdes Birthing Center on a travelling nurse assignment. Working with Virginia made the night shift go by quickly and it was a privilege working side by side as we shared the same enthusiasm for mother baby care. She had a gift for making new mothers to be comfortable during their labor and shared genuine joy at the new life she helped to bring into the world. She became a close and dear friend. I will miss her energy, her infectious smile and humor. I know she is with Jesus as her love for the Lord was in everything she did.
We do not ever know when the Lord will call us home, Love each other, forgive each other, and smile, enjoy the important things in life, your loved ones.
Guy and I miss you and will see you again...Love you Virginia, get the coffee ready!!

I love you sister.

Thank you for your prayer and love. Virginia was my older very dear sister. She was a gift from God and I was so fortunate to have her in my life. My grandson was born one day after her death and I know she would have loved to kiss and hold him. She loved babies and I was lucky to have her help deliver my daughter. Virginia touched many lives with her smiles, love, and kindness.
I smile, she is at peace, the next time she opens her eyes she will see Jesus coming the clouds of Glory. Please live your lives to the fullest. Jesus is coming soon, and we are waiting for him. God Bless

I am going to miss Virginia so very much. I am glad that I knew her, she would come and get a coffee from me every morning on her way home from work and would often stop and get a coffee from us on her way to work. Her smile is going to be missed.

Those who attended our Tri-Cities SIngles Over 50 Sunday on August 29 had the pleasure of meeting Virginia for the first time as she joined our social group. The 22 members of TCSOF who were at that breakfast were saddened that we only got to meet and chat with her that one time. Her smile and social energy left many of us eager to become her new friends. Our prayers are with Virginia's family and friends. Bill DeBoard, TCSOF organizer, 845-7545
