Edwin Roberts Obituary

Edwin C. Roberts Sr. RAYMERTOWN - Edwin C. “Ed” Roberts Sr., 69, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, died peacefully, Sunday, February 16, 2014, at his Slate Farm residence with his family by his side following a short illness. Born on the family farm, January 23, 1945, Ed was the son of the late Francis and Iva (Whitehouse) Roberts and for 22 years the husband of Patricia (Billings) Roberts of Brunswick, who survives. Previously he was the husband of Frances “Gail” (Winters) Rockwell of Grafton, who also survives. Ed was educated in the local district one-room school and was a member of Tamarac High School’s first graduating class in 1964. Throughout his adult life, Ed was a dairy farmer working the property that his father had farmed and currently farmed with his son, Edwin Jr. After retiring from dairy farming, he worked as an excavation contractor serving many local communities. Mr. Roberts was a life member of 53 years of the Raymertown Volunteer Fire Company and recently assisted in the role of Fire Police. Among Ed’s favorite pastimes was his love of traveling with Pat to Wells, Maine, collecting old coins, attending yard sales, and hunting. In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by four children, Edwin C. Roberts Jr. (Vicky) of Brunswick, Pauline Roberts Hansen (Craig) of Raymertown, William D. Roberts (Kate) of Brunswick, and Laura Roberts (Michael) of Lexington, NC, four stepchildren, Sharon MacDonald of Johnsonville, Patricia West (Michael) of Berne, Ronald Cushman of Pittstown, and Eugene Cushman of Brunswick, a brother and sister-in-law, John and Marie Roberts of Raymertown, two grandchildren, Wade and Hailey Hansen both of Raymertown, seven step-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A private memorial service was held at the convenience of the family at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home located in Raymertown. Burial will take place later this spring at Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke. At the request of the family, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Raymertown Volunteer Fire Company, 43 Mason Lane, Raymertown, NY 12180.

I still hear your laugh, and I still feel your strength. I miss you so much and I cannot believe it's been about a year. I have one more season to prove myself that I can play on Sundays, I know for a fact you are with me during every game. I write your initials on my wrist. I just want you to know that you are still missed dearly and that will never change. I love you papa cows forever and ever Amen.

Dear Dad,

I can't believe its almost been a year since your left this earth to be free of pain. Not a day goes by I don't think of you. I can't bring myself to delete your number from my phone and don't think I ever will. ITs been a rough year without you and they say as time passes it will be better so all I can do is hope that it's true. I miss calling you just to talk, joke and hear your voice. Since we laid you to rest in May I haven't been able to go back to NY but when I do I'll be going to see you and will just sit and talk to you like I used to at the kitchen table. I miss you dad more than anything. Not a day goes I don't cry when I think of you. I miss you snd wish I would not have left when we brought you home from the hospital the last time. I should have stayed to spend more time with you and that's something I'll regret forever.

I love you Dad - your youngest daughter Laura

Papa Cows I miss you so much. We had some great times, you and I. I still remember when you would sit me on the cows back as you milked them. You have influenced me in so many ways, its unreal. I know that you are my guardian angel, especially when Im on the field. You give me the strength to become the man you wanted your grandson to be. Hopefully you continue to watch me as I grow bigger and stronger, I strive to play on Sundays for you. I love you so much Papa Cows.

Pat, So Sorry to hear about your loss. Thinking of you during this difficult time.

February 24, 2014

dear dad,
It feels so weird sitting here in the airport and not making the call to you to let you know I landed and waiting for my next flight. It's going to be so hard to not pick up the phone to call you when I get back to NC...no more gas, dog and weather talks...it's going to be so hard to adjust not being able to joke with you, hear your laugh or your voice. I miss you so much already and it's only been a week.

love you,
your youngest daughter Laura

To my Uncle Ed. I have many fond memories of you and will always cherish those memories. Square dancing with the BRB Boys is one of those many fond memories, just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. You were always there when I needed a helping hand. A girl could not have asked for a better uncle. You also brought a lot of joy to my kids, especially when they came up to the farm with Pa. I will always remember you and cherish the love and fond memories that were shared. Rest in Peace. Love your niece Susan.

To the Roberts family. I want to extend my deepest sympathy to you all. I, too, was one of the first students at Tamarac School coming from a two room schoolhouse in Cropseyville. I was 15 when I met Ed and he became my first crush as a teenager. We went to a couple of square dances in Melrose. I have always had wonderful memories of this kind and respectful man. As I read the messages of how much Ed is loved by family and friends I felt I wanted to share my memory of him too. I never forgot him and his sweetness. Rest in peace my dear old friend.
