John Danahy Obituary

WATERFORD, NY -John R. 'Jack' Danahy, 96, of Waterford and formerly of Troy, entered into eternal rest and in the arms of the Lord on February 24, 2023 in the comfort of his home with his loving wife by his side and family.Born on January 30, 1927 at the St. Joseph's Maternity Hospital in South Troy, he was the son of John R and Martha Daum Danahy.Mr. Danahy retired as Director of Veterans Services for the Rensselaer County Veterans Bureau, prior to that he was a Support Investigator for the Rensselaer County S.S. Dept and D&H Railroad.Jack was a graduate of LaSalle Institute and Siena College, and served our country with the U.S. Navy from 1945 ' 1950. He was a longtime faithfull parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Troy and member of the North Greenbush VFW, Knights of Columbus and the Troy Lodge of Elks where he served as District Deputy, Grand Exalted Ruler and State Vice President. Although he had a busy schedule he always made time for his family that he cherished.Survivors include his wife of 27 years Janet Dobrucki Snay, Children; John R. Danahy Jr., Martin (Susan) Danahy, Jeanne (Roman) Matejczuk, Daniel (Mary) Danahy, Michael (Stacy) Danahy, and Mary Margaret (Stephen) SorrelsAlong with his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Mary Killeen, Daughter; Marietta Milkowski and siblings Edward L. Danahy and Mary T. Murray. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Patricia McMahon and many nieces and nephews.Funeral procession will begin at 10 am on Monday from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 3rd St. Troy to St. Joseph's Church, Troy where at 10:30 am funeral services will be celebrated with Fr. Joseph Ngo Officiating, Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
