Michael Roach Sr. Obituary

Michael P. Roach Sr., 65, died peacefully at his home in Saratoga Springs on September 3.
Michael was the son of Dorothy Hart Roach and the late John, "Jack" Roach, who passed away in 2004.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his loving son Michael Roach Jr. and his loving daughter Glenna Roach, both of Albany. He is also survived by his sister Susan Schoonbeck and brother Patrick Roach, both of Troy, and his nephew Billy Schoonbeck.
Michael was a graduate of Siena College and was a civil servant of New York State for over 30 years.
In his youth, Michael was an active athlete and the captain of the Watervliet High School basketball team, jumped the fence at Woodstock to attend the original music festival, and was known in his college years as an outspoken student protestor and organizer.
Michael was a great intellect, avid reader, and had a deep appreciation for jazz music. He enjoyed science fiction and passed on the fascination for it to both his son and daughter. He followed all sports, particularly the Norte Dame football team, and he loved watching the World Cup this year. Michael became especially devout to his Catholic faith in his later years and often dreamed of visiting the Vatican and Rome.
Michael was a sensitive man, lived simply, provided what he could for his children, and often repeated a French saying, "What is life without its simple pleasures?" He also once told us, "The greatest thing I have ever done in my life was have kids." We love him very much and will miss him greatly.
A grave side service will be held on Monday, September 8 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Brunswick Road,Troy, at noon.
Arrangements by the John H. Clinton Funeral Home, Washington Park and Third Street, Troy.
