Caroline McMahon Obituary
Caroline died February 21, 2025 in Tucson AZ. She was born July 8, 1944 in Eubank, KY to Minia Wynn (nee Madden) and John B Wynn. The family moved to Nabb, IN when she was 6 years old. After graduating from Lexington high school, turning 18 and with much arm twisting her farther signed the required permission and Carol joined the Women's Army Corps to see the world. During her 6 years of service Carol was stationed at 5 different bases but none abroad. At her last base Carol met and married Don her partner for 56 years. Carol, Don and their children lived in 5 states. Their final state was Arizona when they moved here in 1986. From an early age Carol was an avid reader. During her young years she read whatever books she could get. As an adult she mostly enjoyed mysteries. When the family moved to a new city, Carol looked for the public library. She believed in and supported the public library system. She took her children weekly to the library to teach them the systems, browse books and insisted each child check out at least 2 books. She taught her children to be independent and kind. When Carol had young children, a husband and a house to manage, she decided to go to college. She first went to Hillsborough Community College for 2 years and then to University of South Florida to complete her class work and earn a bachelor of Arts degree. Carol organized many family road trips around visiting state capitals. Her goal was to see them all. Sadly she was short about 15 states. Early in Carol's life in Arizona she met three women, Edna, Flo and Joyce, they were great friends. They were part of the group of founding members of the Palo Verde Chapter 87 of the Women's Army Corps Veterans Assn., the first chapter in southern Arizona. Carol was proud to be a WAC veteran. Carol loved living in Arizona. She loved the desert, the plants, the mountains and the sunshine. Carol is survived by her husband Don, children Paul and Elizabeth (Liz), younger siblings Anna Rae, Jeffery (Marlene) and Damone. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister Robin. Carol's body was Cremated and ashes interned at the Southern Arizona Veterans Cemetery in Siera Vista. Never underestimate a woman with a DD214
