Charles Fraser Obituary

Charles E. Fraser 92, of Detroit, Mich. Passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 10, 1922 to the late Sarah and Charles R. Fraser. Charles graduated from Rogers City High School in 1940 where he played football and basketball. He enlisted in the Navy in August 1942; tour of duty was Grosse Isle Naval Air Station, Grosse Isle, Mich. In December 1944 he received orders to report to the BB63 in San Francisco, California where he served aboard the USS Missouri until January 1946. Received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with three battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Naval Occupation Service Medal. Achieved the rating of 2/C Boatswain Mate and Honorably Discharged in January 1946. Charles returned from the service to join his father and brother (Earl Fraser) in the plumbing and heating business in Alpena, Mich. In July 1947 Charles married Geraldine Frantz in Alpena, Mich. They had two daughters, Susan Jane and Mary Anne. They moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1959 and he joined the Plumbers & Fitters Local 741 until he retired in 1984. He was a Lifetime member of Elks Lodge #2532 and Masonic Lodge #199 Alpena Mich. and Scottish Rite 32Deg. Charles also enjoyed having his golf shop for many years in his back yard where he repaired golf clubs and made special order clubs till it became too much to keep up. He loved playing golf and watching it on TV. A proud moment for him was when he finally had a hole in one on October 30, 2001 at Fred Enke Golf Course at Hole #15, 120 yards with his 7- Iron. This great man will be very much missed by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine "Gerry" his former son-in-law, William A. Rucker Jr. and Diane V. Rucker; granddaughters, Rebekah, Suzie and Gabriella and grandson, Joseph. Charles was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother and daughters. In lieu of flowers, donations be made on behalf of Charles E. Fraser to Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church. Services will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Streams of the Desert Lutheran Church, 5360 E. Pima Rd., Tucson, Arizona 85712. Burial will follow East Lawn Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.
