Daniel Wolfe Obituary

Daniel Wolfe a father, a husband, a brother, uncle and son. A man not afraid to tell a joke that isn't funny or dance when he doesn't know how. A talented musician who could play the piano and trumpet at the same time. A true improvisational artist as well an intellectual engineer always seeking new knowledge. Born on Valentine's Day 1954 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, a natural lover of music, the arts, electronics, math, science and the environment. He has left us too soon this October 3, 2015. He is celebrated by his father, Sam Wolfe; brothers, David (Nancy), Michael (Maygee) and Joel (Linnea); his wife, Marie Geraci of 38 years and daughter, Lena Wolfe as well as his two nephews, Reuven and Jonha; niece, Anna and 78 members of the Geraci family. Dan and Marie moved to Tucson in 1980 where Dan started his career as an engineer for IBM. What was supposed to be a few short years in the desert turned into 35. Dan was a warm, caring, considerate man that thought deeply about the science and engineering behind everything. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School, then Case Western Reserve with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and went on to complete an MS through the National Technical Institute via IBM and an MBA from University of Phoenix. Dan played trumpet during his early jazz career then switched to piano when it became too hard to keep his "chops" in shape. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Tucson Jazz society and played at several of the jazz spots in Tucson. Dan was also an avid hiker who knew every trail and participated in many "meet up" hikes. He loved the desert and all its beauty. And not to be forgotten, Dan had an insatiable sweet tooth that lead him straight to any pastry shop, ice cream parlor, or chocolate factory. If so desired, please make monetary contributions to your favorite charity and support the Arts, Sciences, and Environment in Tucson. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2015 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson, AZ, 85710.

Jalbima with Dan Wolfe on bass....

February 18, 2016

Here's an old picture of the multi-talented Dan playing bass, circa 1971???

Dan was a great trumpet player in the Heights High marching band, stage band, symphonic band and orchestra. He was really easy-going and fun to be around. A wonderful, light hearted friend, always had a joke or a smile. Played a wicked good solo when stage band played the Great Lakes Naval base, got a standing ovation. So glad he stayed with jazz all these years. He is sadly missed.

I played in his band Resolution 57. We used to play at Bonnie Vining's place, Javalina's. Dan was a great guy to be around and to play music with. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Marie and Lena,
My heart goes out to you and I am thinking about you daily during this sad and difficult time. Dan was a very considerate and humble man; always thinking of others. I am glad to have spent some time with him in the outdoors; always up for another adventure. Dan will not be forgotten; I will always remember his compassion for others. He shared a passion for intellectual curiosities with a love of the freedom that nature brings when time is spent embracing her. I will remember his appetite; wondering where he put all that food on such a svelte frame.

Know that you both are loved and and cared for. You are both extraordinary women and all will be well. Grief and sadness may overwhelm you now; you will heal from this great loss in good time. With Love, your friend Kim

Daniel was and always will be my cousin. I am an only child, so Daniel was sort of like an older brother to me. He always came to family functions, the last one being my dad's 90th birthday on September 6 (his Uncle Lenny who was his mother's brother). He always called me when he came back to Cleveland too, just to visit and go to Jack's Deli in South Euclid. I will miss him a lot.

Dan was one of my favorite students at IBM both while working on his MS from the National Technology Institute and often as a participant in IBM technical classes held on Site. He was always eager to learn and a welcome source of feedback on education needs.
I am very surprised and saddened to hear of his passing.

I sit here in disbelief as I realize that the smile that came through so clearly on the phone will no longer be there. I have worked with Dan at IBM for more years than I care to count and on so many projects. He always held a positive outlook on everything. That throaty laugh of his could brighten your day or calm you down when things were not going right. One time when I was in Tucson for a series of meetings I had brought my signature trail mix that I shared with Dan and he fell in love with the dried ginger. A few weeks ago I thought he was coming to San Jose for a design camp and made him the trail mix with EXTRA ginger. He wasn't able to come and I joked with him that I was mad at him because I toiled hours over fixing the trail mix for him.and then there goes that laugh! Even though Dan touched my life for minutes a week, I feel blessed for having had that time with him. I pray that his family finds peace through this difficult timeseek comfort in your memories and the fact that he touched so many of us with that smile of his!

I didn't know Daniel very well as we only met briefly while he and his band were playing at a local Green Valley, AZ club.
I was delivering a video clip of his father, Sam, at a rehearsal in Cleveland, Ohio. Sam was my High School homeroom teacher and science advisor.
Daniel warmly received my wife and I and asked that we stay a while but we had other plans for the evening.
I sincerely extend my condolences to Daniel's family and friends.
