David WRIGHT Obituary
WRIGHT, Dr. David F. passed away peacefully at his home Sunday morning, July 10, 2016. He and Marita had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on June 12, 2016. David was born February 19, 1929 in Quincy, Massachusetts. He graduated from Thayer Academy in Braintree in 1947. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, in 1951, and received the Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Ohio State University in 1957. After a working for a time with DuPont in Virginia, David served as Professor of Chemistry at Ohio Northern University and Mount Union College in Ohio. Then he became chairman of the Department of Basic Sciences at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was a member of honorary societies Phi Lambda Upsilon and Sigma Pi. He was an active member and co-founder of the Lima, Ohio, section of the American Chemical Society. He was a member of the Stetson Kindred of America, the Nye Family of America, the Sandwich Glass Museum, and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of London. David and Marita first met as undergraduates at Tufts University. In their life together, after teaching in the winter they would retreat to the northern mountains in the summer. They climbed the 100 highest mountains in New England by map, compass, and altimeter, and were honored by the small group that did this in the Appalachian Mountain Club. He also did volunteer work collecting and analyzing water samples for the National Forest Service in New Hampshire and serving as a fire tower lookout for the Maine Forest Service. David is survived by his wife, a sister and niece in Brooklyn, New York, and a nephew and family in New Jersey. Son, Christopher died in Santa Cruz, California, in 2008. Chris was a Senior Electronic Development Engineer for the University of California's Keck Telescopes in Hawaii. One of the grand-nephews from New Jersey, Matt Lichtenberg, is currently an undergraduate at the University of Arizona. David's lasting joy was the parish choir and Cabaret of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Tucson. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 3738 Old Sabino Canyon Road, Tucson. A Graveside Service will be held later with family and friends at Calvary Cemetery in Woburn, Massachusetts. Arrangements are being made by HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME.
