Eddy Shaieb Obituary

Eddy "Chuck" Shaieb Passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2006. Survived by his daughter, Michelle Conroy; grandchildren, Lana and Christian as well as his sister-in-law, Dollene "Val" Shaieb of Sierra Vista; first wife and lifelong friend, Barbara (Ruffin) Kinne; Michelle's sister, Lisa Kinne and her husband Max Mirgoli; Aunt Mary Nebhan, Uncle Louis Tourk of El Paso, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mike and May Shaieb; beloved brother and confidant, Tony Shaieb; his beautiful sister, Emily (Hammons) and brother-in-law, Virgil Hammons. Chuck was born on December 21, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to Tucson with his family in 1946 and attended Tucson High School where he excelled on the track team. Chuck was a restauranteur and had several businesses, beginning with The Village Tavern, The Skyroom and the Oracle Inn. In 1970 Chuck opened the Baron's with both his brother Tony, and longtime business partner Norman Sarlat, who was a cherished and trusted friend (and gin-rummy opponent) for over forty years. Chuck will be remembered for his affable charm, sharp mind and wonderful smile. His favorite pastime was playing golf at Tucson Country Club with his closest friends as well as his many trips to Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. Later in life Chuck enjoyed the challenge of the stock market as he became the wise counsel to many who looked to him for advice and encouragement. Special loving thanks to close friend, Jodi Sheridan for her warmth and compassion. A dedicated father and grandfather, we miss you so much and will hold you close in our hearts forever. Visitation was held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd, at Speedway, on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass was held at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2006.

While going to the U of A in the 80's, I had the pleasure of caddying for Mr. Shaieb on a regular basis for several years, along with Dennis Behan and Bennie Klimist. Their collective generosity allowed me the time and means to graduate. I have many fond memories of their comaraderie on the golf course. "The Fry Cook" (as Mr. Behan often called Mr. Shaieb) was always the consummate gentleman, but had a very competitive side that I got to know as we walked and talked down the fairway. He loved to go "1 Up" on his friends, both on the scorecard and in joking around. When I started dating my, then, girlfriend and current wife, I took her to the Baron's for dinner. Mr. Shaieb gratiously spent time at our table, stretching the truth on how nice a guy I was and then picked up our check. When my parents came in from Chicago to visit, their favorite place to eat was at the Baron's. Mr. Shaieb was equally as free with his time and compliments. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. He truly is a Great Guy.

Chuck (Charlie to some of us) has been in my life for over 25 years. We have shared many events of our life and our children with each other and found joy in just knowing the other was safe and happy. He will be leading the way in this better place. I am thankful he was a part of my life and my heart.

I met Chuck when I was in High School while having dinner at the Barron's. Later, Chuck married my Sister, Barbara Leal. Throughout the years of their life together, we enjoyed times with family from both sides. I lost touch with Chuck over the years, however, I thought of him each time I passed the location of the Barron's restaurant and utilized the knowledge I gained about the restaurant industry through Chuck's stories. Chuck and his family are in our thoughts and prayers. I will miss his stories that he told when I would visit the Baron's and his kindness he extended to all of my family while he was married to my sister, Barbara Leal. I know he is now at peace and was greeted by his dad. My prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

For many years I spoke to Chuck several times a day in the course of our business dealings. My memories of him are not only of his intelligence, & wise decision making, but of his big heart. I came to value his friendship over the years and he will be greatly missed. May his family find the warmth of his arms around them from Heaven as his friends surround them with it here.

"Gramps", as he was known to close friends of Chris and Lana, will be dearly missed. A great man to whom I always looked forward to seeing during holidays in Tucson, and who always seemed to have a good story and some good advice. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Chuck was a long time friend of mine

and I cherished our times together visiting Las Vegas and also playing an occasional round of golf. He was a great friend of George Atwood who frequented with others, including me, the Baron's Restaurant a great place that Norm and Chuck created, noted for it's wonderful food and congeniality. Chuck will be missed by many of us. He was a great guy.
