Ernest McCauley Obituary

MCCAULEY, Ernest Walter, Jr., born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 12, 1925, died June 11, 2008 in Bellingham, Washington. Preceded in death by his wife Opal McCauley of Green Valley, AZ; son Michael McCauley of Terra Haute, IN; daughter JoAnn Mendoza Pacheco of Tucson, AZ and son David McCauley of Phoenix, AZ. Survived by daughter Martha Sabrowski (Drew) of Bellingham, WA; granddaughter Gwendolyn Huff (Jeff) of Sahuarita, AZ; granddaughter Amy Alonge (Warren) of Sahuarita, AZ; grandson Ernest W. McCauley III of Sahuarita, AZ; granddaughter Amanda Brement of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter Danielle Bourey of Bellingham, WA; great-grandchildren, Brady and Annjolyn Huff (Wendy and Jeff Huff) of Sahuarita, AZ; Taylor and Garrent Alonge (Amy and Warren) of Sahuarita, AZ. Mr. McCauley was a WWII veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served on P.T. boars "Devil Boats" as a Gunners Mate Third Class. He fought in various campaigns throughout the Philippines and received numerous medals for the Battle of Leyte Gulf, as well as the freeing of the Solomon Islands and the Battle of Subic Bay. He was discharged with honors and returned home to the great state of Alabama where he married his one true love, Opal Norris. They became the proud parents of four children who in turn blessed them with both grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. McCauley achieved many professional successes throughout civilian life including the titles of Master Mechanic and Superintendent of Maintenance at Banner Mill Mine/Anaconda Twin Buttes Mines. He retired as the director of Plant Services at St. Mary's Hospital. He is now reunited with his beloved Opal and precious children. He will be forever remembered as a beloved husband, precious father, wonderful grandfather, and adorable great-grandpa. Viewing and memorial tribute held Monday, June 16 at 9:30 a.m., SOUTH LAWN CEMETERY & MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave., Tucson, AZ 85706. Graveside services 10:30 a.m.
