Gilbert Acosta Obituary

Gilbert Giron Acosta passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in La Quinta, California. He was born on March 15, 1936, in Lordsburg, New Mexico, to Victoria Giron Acosta and Emilio Acosta.

As a young child, Gilbert moved to Tucson with his mother and stepfather, Refugio (Ray) Hernandez. He graduated from Tucson High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1962.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his mother Victoria Hernandez, father Emilio Acosta, wife of ten years Lorena Branham, son Scott Acosta, and brothers Fred G. Acosta and Oscar Hernandez.

He is survived by his son Courtland Acosta of Pennsylvania; brothers Marin Acosta of Tucson and Emilio Acosta of Saddlebrooke, Arizona; and sisters Gloria Acosta, Rosemary Bojorquez, and Dr. Sandra Hernandez, all of California. He is also survived by grandchildren Nicole Acosta and Zachary Acosta, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Prayers will be offered in Gilbert's memory on Sunday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, located at 1946 E Lee St., Tucson, AZ 85719.
