Dr. James Arthur EVANS

EVANS, Dr. James Arthur, born in Gary, IN, May 20, 1934, the eldest son of Dr. Arthur L. Evans and Mary Alice (Porter), James "Jim" passed away February 11, 2017 in Tucson, AZ, where he had resided with his wife of 60 years, Karen (Emmett). After graduation from Lew Wallace HS, Gary, he played football for the U of Iowa and then graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry, followed by a graduate degree in pediatric dentistry at U of IL, Chicago. Jim practiced in Highland and Valparaiso, IN, before semi-retiring to Santa Fe, NM, where he opened yet another dental office, practicing for ten years before moving to Tucson. Preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Amy Louise and his brother, Edward Porter Evans (Dolores). He is survived by his wife, daughter, Jil Evans (Dr. Charles Taliaferro) of Minneapolis; brother, David Abel Evans (Carol) of Crown Point, IN and son, Dr. Todd Robert Evans (New York); grandsons, Julien James Evans and Max Alan Evans (New York). A career-long member of the American Dental Association and affiliates, Jim was an active member of the Board of Directors of Tradewinds, a non-profit organization helping children with special needs. His interests included fly fishing, woodworking, and sports (Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and IU basketball). Friends remember his "one-liners" as being typical of his wry sense of humor. A Memorial Service is being planned for Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Tucson. The family asks that contributions made in his name go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or animal shelters of their choice. Arrangements by VISTOSO FUNERAL HOME.
