STANDEN, James Ronald, M.D. 85, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on May 17, 2017. He was born to Ronald Harmon Standen and Irene Marguerite (Miller) Standen on May 12, 1932 in a farmhouse in Boissevain, Manitoba, Canada. He died in peace on his own terms with his family by his side. Jim was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather and doctor. He touched the lives of so many, and will be greatly missed. After one year of pre-med at the Univ. of Saskatchewan, at the age of 19, Jim became a cadet at the Canadian Services College Royal Roads in Victoria, BC for two years. From 1952-54, he attended Royal Military College for Mechanical Engineering. In 1959, Jim received his MD degree from the University of Toronto Faculty Of Medicine. He completed his internship at Toronto Western Hospital in 1960, and his radiology residency at Royal Victoria Hospital at McGill University in Montreal in 1965. Dr. Standen accepted a position as Head of Radiology at Dalhousie University, and Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1985, he moved his family to Tucson, Arizona to work with Southern Arizona Radiology at St. Mary's hospital, while also working part-time as a Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Arizona. Just one year later, Dr. Standen accepted a full-time position specializing in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Arizona from which he retired in 2009. Jim had many passions in life; such as playing the trombone, and listening to classical music and operas. He was an avid sports fan either cheering on his children and grandchildren in various athletic events or as an enthusiastic supporter for local university sports. He was a dedicated Professor and mentor at the University Of Arizona School Of Medicine. Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife of 39 years, Peggy, along with his children and grandchildren. Since 1988, Jim could often be found taking in the peaceful sights on the golf course with his regular morning golf group at Tucson Country Club. Dr. Standen is survived by his wife, Peggy (Muir) Standen; daughter, Marni Standen; four sons, Michael Smith (Chigaya), Stephen Smith (Andrea), Ted Standen (Sue), and David Smith (Heidi); five grandchildren, Shannon Christensen (Garrett), Samantha Standen, Jack Standen-Dunn, Logan and Sydney Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Lillian, Caroline, Teddy, and Amelia Christensen.
