John Butcher Obituary

John Daniel Butcher "Jack" 12/27/1931 – 9/5/2015 83, passed away quietly in the comfort of his home. Survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Jan Harrison, John Butcher III., Jim Butcher and Joanne Michaelsen; seven grandchildren, Justin, Alex, Jade, John IV, Jimmy, Jennifer and Stephanie; great- grandchild, Ryan. John, loving called Jack was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Fred A. Butcher and Genevieve La Verne Towner. He was raised in Michigan until 1945. His family then moved to California. He attended Occidental College and that is where he met the love of his life, Joyce Baldwin. In 1950, Jack enlisted in the Navy Reserves and during his college years was given orders to serve on the DDR 877 USS Perkins assigned to the Western Pacific. He returned to graduate from college and marry his wife of 61 years, Joyce. Jack had a very successful 43 year career with Sears Roebuck & Co. He started as a Management Trainee in 1953 in Long Beach, CA. His illustrious career with Sears took him to six different states, four Store Management positions, Western Territory Operating Director, Southern Territory Operating Director, National Field Brand Central Director and National Construction Manager where his office was on the 44th floor of the Sears Tower in Chicago, IL. Upon retirement, Jack and Joyce enjoyed building a beautiful home in Vero Beach, FL where they both loved the Indian River, Atlantic Ocean and Jack's many rounds of golf. They made their way back to Tucson, AZ in 2002 to live and follow all the activities and achievements of their grandchildren. Jack was the Store Manager of the Sears Store at Park Mall from 1972 until 1980. He always said he was the luckiest guy in Sears because of the wonderful people he worked with and considered them close friends. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him and loved him. The family would like to thank the people of Casa de la Luz Hospice for the love and support during Jack's final days and also Elizabeth for her compassion and tender care. In lieu of flowers, donations on John D. Butcher's behalf can be sent to Casa de la Luz Foundation, 7740 N. Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85704 or CCHS Family Network, CCHS Foundation P.O. Jack was a wonderful person and one of the most professional and knowledgeable people I had the pleasure of knowing during our years together at Sears. He'll be greatly missed by all of us who were fortunate to have him as our co-worker and Friend. May God Bless him and all his Loving Family. Tom and Kay Douglas

Mr. Butcher was a man unparalleled in leadership and inspiration for all the Sear's employees who were lucky enough to have him as their store manager. His friendship and encouragement contributed greatly to my successful career at Sears, and he will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. Thank you, Jack Butcher.

Dear Joyce & Family;
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Jack today. It brought up so many wonderful memories and thoughts not only of Jack but the wonderful Butcher family. Joyce I know this is a most difficult time because we are never ready to give up our partner of many, many years but with the love of your children and your faith in God there will be better days. Jack is with the Lord and there is no better place to be. In heaven, the streets are lined with Gold, Jack is whole, there is no suffering and he is seated at the right hand of the Lord. Because of all the people Jack helped and touched, God will only extend his choicest blessings upon him. May God Bless you Joyce and keep you and all of the family as well. Jack was a wonderful man. Love too you all.
