Joseph HARTUNG Obituary

HARTUNG, Joseph F., Passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born in Oswego, New York in 1945, but had made his home in Tucson for nearly 50 years. An avid reader of history, fiction and anything baseball, Joe was a life long Giants baseball fan. Joe is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou Hengeveld and Anne H. Whealan (James) both of Massachusetts; nieces and nephew, Robbin L. Hartung of NYC, Josh Hartung of Brooklyn, NY and Meghan A. Whealan (Joseph Hernandez) of Washington, DC and former sister-in-law, Priscilla L. Hartung of NYC. His parents, S. E. and Mary Owens Hartung and his brothers, John O. and Paul A. predeceased him. Joe also leaves behind wonderful friends, Pat Kochanski, Mary Bittner, Barb Butierez, Susan Peterson, Jim Guendelsberger, Bob Ferrera, Don Wallace and many other Arizona friends. Joe donated his remains to the University of Arizona Willed Body Program. At his request there will be no Memorial service. Memorial donations in Joe's name may be made to BAG IT, 7090 N. Oracle Rd., Tucson, AZ 85704 or The Baseball Hall of Fame, 25 Main St, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Anne! Many years have separated us since our time in Catalina HS. But I immediately recognized Hartung in the local paper. I continue to live in Tucson.
