Paul Allen Mears Sr.

Paul Allen Mears, Sr. died peacefully at home on Friday, July 19, 2013. Paul was born on July 25, 1925 in Saltillo, MS to Claude Winford Mears and Clara Tanner Mears. He was a veteran of World War II, joining the Navy in 1943 at age 18. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College, earning a degree in accounting. Paul married Ella Fountain Stone on September 4, 1949. The family moved to Tucson in 1962. Paul was a Mason, a member of the SCV, and active in several Southern Baptist churches as a deacon and as a music director. After retiring from ASARCO mines, he continued to play piano for small churches, ran his own income tax prep business, and worked for Caring Ministries. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years and daughter, Patricia. He is survived by sons, Paul Jr. (Penny) and Phillip (Becky); daughter, Lyn McEnaney (Rick) and seven grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 22nd Street Baptist Church. Donations can be made in his name to Caring Ministries, Inc., 820 W. Calle Sur, Tucson, AZ 85705.
