Rafael Herrera Obituary

Rafael Herrera Was born in Bisbee, Arizona on October 25, 1918 to Jose and Gregoria Herrera and lived most of his life in Bisbee. Rafael passed away on November 13, 2013 at the Copper Queen Hospital. Like many other children of this time he had to grow up fast to help support his family. Rafael is a WWII Army veteran, drafted in the 1942 campaign for the Pacific and European War. He returned to Bisbee in 1945. Went to work for Phelps Dodge and retired in 1983. Rafael was a devoted husband to Dora for 47 years. Dad's stories and witty humor will be greatly missed. He enjoyed listening and dancing to Big Band music, he also loved to draw and was quite the artist. He enjoyed watching Baseball and Boxing and he loved to read. What dad did best was spend countless hours worrying.... We will always Love you Dad and we will miss you until we are together again. Rest in Paz! Special thanks to Joe who cared for him for many years. Dad truly loved God that's why God gifted him with a long life. We were truly blessed to have him as our Father. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Silva (Ignacio) of California, Sylvia Herrera of Tucson, Arizona; his sons, Rafael Jr. of South Dakota, Jose of Bisbee, Miguel of Tucson Arizona and Oscar of Bisbee; brother, Ernest Herrera of Bisbee; cousins, Frances Flores Johnson of California and Maria Louisa Diaz of California; ten grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers Oscar Herrera, Mark Dominguez, Mario Herrera, David Chavez, Steven Silva, Nito Perez. Honorary Pallbearers, Ernest Herrera, George Herrera Jr, Al Hirales, Joe Chavez, Billy Carr, Louie Silva; one great -great-grandchild on the way. Many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death: wife, Dora Villa Herrera; daughter, Lupe Carr and son-in-law William Carr; brother, George Herrera; sisters, Bertha Chavez, Josephina Moreno. Rosary and Mass will be Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Patrick's Church 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Care entrusted to ALEX ESPINOSA BISBEE FUNERAL HOME, 432-4242.
